Disney-pop At age 50, Madonna can't do Disney-pop under any circumstances. she is also too much of a Yankee with a part-time British accent to do country. This leave her to do the sounds of mainstream hip-hop/r&b to get the attention of the Americans, because no one in the USA (apart from the dance clubs of Miami, New York, L.A., & San Francisco) is feeling the Euro-driven electronic dance-pop sound. You missed the 3 words before that...HER AMERICAN FANBASE I don't know many Madonna Fans who really like hip hop. Most of us are well into our 30's and one of the reasons we like Madonna is that for the most part her music was growing with us. Sure there has always been a nod to the younger generation music wise, but I feel Hard Candy was a bigger nod than usual. It was a hard album to digest for me as I don't like all of the newer sounds that are out there. I have a few friends who feel the same way about this record...if they are even able to get into it. You also said "her American fanbase.....who has moved on from the hip-hop sound". That last part isn't true, so that is what I needed to comment on. But I wish it was true because I would like electronic dance (hell, dance in general) to make a comeback on American radio. [Edited 7/9/08 12:32pm] | |
