Michael has never claimed to invent the Moonwalk, but actually stated he saw some kids in the inner-city break-dancing on some cardboard and first saw the Moonwalk performed by them.

He asked them to teach him; they obliged.

He did, however, bring it to a world-wide audience on Motown 25.

This was mentioned in Michael Jackson: The Magic and the Madness by J. Randy Taraborelli. A wonderful read for anyone wanting to read both a flattering and unflattering portrayal of the man that is Michael Jackson.

I agree with what others are saying: Michael has never claimed that he invented the moonwalk, just like Madonna has never claimed that she invented voguing. When a major pop artist does something,it gets more attention and exposure than it otherwise would have gotten and they always get accused of "stealing" something that wasn't theirs and claiming credit for it rolleyes

so then, I can see that the dance moves that came out of the Bronx were actually just updates/variations on moves that other artists did before them (sometimes generations before). In that case, our entertainment networks need to start educating me and others on these things, instead of the shite we see today.

Don't expect to be "educated" by the media or "entertainment networks". The media is what it is. There's a lot of information out there that, if truly interested, you can educate yourself with. nod

The moonwalk and popping didn't come from New York, it actually started in the Bay Area in Northern California
