Every so often,we have a thread devoted to this song That's okay....a funky jam like this deserves to be discussed all the time.Did you hear the reference to Prince in the second verse?

Yeah...that always blew my mind. Even back then. I always thought that these cats must have been deeply in love with Prince and shit. I mean, to actaully name check a cat that's out at the same time as you? Fuck that. Prince had a straight spell on these cats in the mid 80's. That's real. The track was cool on it's on. Musically, it didn't sound anything like Prince so I don't know, even as as kid,..I thought it weird that he would call out Prince. It was like if he mentioned Prince by name in his song, then that would make it a hit. Like a magical potion or something..."Oh hummasayetichische...we call Prince."

The song also makes references to Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson I'm surprised that Bobby didn't mention Rick James as well.We all know that "Slick Rick" had many groupies too!

Thanks for the info! I knew there was a Rick James connection but I didn't know exactly how.

We have been playing Billy Nunn's latest solo CD on our "Upper Room with Joe Kelley and Gi Dussault" radio show. Great funk, blues and jazz. Billy is a nice guy to boot.

"She's Just A Groupie" was released as a single in the fall of 1982.In my area,it got alot airplay.

Well, come to think of it, maybe Rick did have some influence on Bobby. I remember these very well and I have all the records except for "Just An Illusion" which I'm looking for. I was going to do a thread a few weeks ago on "Nunk" by Warp 9 but I was afraid that no one would remember it.

Yeah, they used to play the hell out of "Nunk" in my area also. Everyone seems to have forgotten it but they instantly remember it once they hear it again.

The org is kinda tricky sometimes. Sometimes they remember something you wouldn't expect them to, and other times, they don't remember something at all. I know I did a thread on "Who's Stickin' It" by Sunrize (a group in 1982 that was produced by The Isley Brothers). I didn't get even one reply.
