Rihanna Copied Canadian Singer Fefe Dobson? I've heard a lot of people say that Rihanna tries to copy Beyonce, but it's obvious that Rihanna or the people at Island Def Jam (Fefe Dobson's former label)rather completely jacked Fefe Dobson's look/style and ran with it. I actually like Rihanna a lot, but this is just shameless :
Then there's this video. The person who posted it is obviously biased, but still they make some good points: I kinda feel bad for her that Rihanna took her whole style and is getting all the credit. Fefe's music is actually pretty good though. I heard some songs from her album "Sunday Love" (which was never released) and was impressed with a lot of the songs. Hopefully, Fefe will find a new record label soon because obviously Island did not know how to market her or her music. Uh....no.
There may have been jacking of a haircut but aside from the fact that they are both light-skinned black females that happen to bear a resemblence, there's not really much swagger-jacking going on. Fefe had a cool little style but it was nothing original. If anybody is swagger-jacking Fefe, its Avril Lavigne. How hard is it to swagger-jack when everybody's wearing GAP shit anyway? I mean really... Fefe is a pop rock chick. Rihanna is a pop chick with way more R&B influences than rock. Pop chicks pull from everybody. They jack a haircut here, a piece of an outfit from here and there and twist them slightly. When they hit the television, they get all the credit because the masses saw them do it FIRST. That's how it goes. When all is said and done, I could never mistake a Fefe Dobson record for a Rihanna record.

...and while we're on the subject of swagger jacking:
The reason I liked Fefe in the first place was because of the first track I heard from her, which sounded just like a Xavion song. Xavion, for those who don't know - was an all black funk rock band that dropped around 1983. Prince jacked a lick from them for "Erotic City". Fefe's song "Take Me Away" sounds just like one of their tracks http://www.youtube.com/wa...zjywkpzkmg At first I thought it was coincidence - you know - all things come back around and what have you, but then she dropped a song called "Don't Let It Go To Your Head". Well guess what? Xavion had a song called "Don't You Let It Go To Your Head". Although the songs are completely different, I'm pretty sure one of her producers has the Xavion album in their collection. So Fefe, like Rihanna, and Avril, is also a "swagger-jacker".

I gave the disc to my daughter. BTW she just said Rhianna don't sound like Fefe...no way. test

Believe it or not but other women on the planet have had short hair too.
Actually this "artist x is so ripping off artist y" thing on the internet is sometimes quite entertaining.

FeFe never had the hitmakers and people behind her to pull the strings like Rihanna has had. Plus she is canadian and the US has a bias towards pop artists not born here, sure we have Leona Lewis now, but she doesnt have that UK sound, Leona is more of the painting by numbers rythym pop that america has going on. To me,it is a bit shameless. It's too much of a coincidence that soon after Island Def Jam drops Fefe Dobson from their lablel, Rihanna comes along and adapts her entire style. Even some of their songs sound a little similar to me. [Edited 7/6/08 12:48pm] "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ

FeFe Dobson, for awhile I thought I was the only on in the U.S. who even knew she existed. Love her song 'Rainbows'. Never really saw pictures of her though except for one video years ago. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

But also when FeFe came out it was still in the middle of the POP competition, now there is no competetion in any market because no one is selling anything, even your mega POP stars that label spend millions on can barely sell a million if they are lucky. FeFe came at a time when Britney and Xtina still were the reigning pop queens, and fefe could not catch on, and this record was jammed down peoples throats in my business, we had to play it everyday at least once and make sure it was always priced cheaper than any other title and positioned next to Britney on every sale, but still you cant force people to like something, the competition was too great at that time. Now is a different story. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

britney had some great pop songs during her reign. I can't remember one fefe song Her music was just not good. During that time in music from like 1998-2002. It just seem easy for people to have hit songs. Fefe music wasn't good at all. I would have given her a chance if it was

It just needs a better singer and different lyrics. The problem wasn't the song but the artist. She's just not that strong of a vocalist. To top it off, she had a song that sounded "too adult" for her voice. At the time, that track should have gone to an older male singer rather than a post-teen girl. The track is really going to have more of an appeal to the 25+ crowd.
