I listened to the tracks before I read your theme and description:
My mixtape is a reflection of my often melancholy, solitary moods. The vibe of the music coupled with the theme "PLOTTING AN ESCAPE"... ...brought to mind images similar to these. Not really what I gravitate to but an interesting listen, and I guess that's part of the exercise. Because of her voice, the Nina Hagen piece was the most interesting for me. Nice set. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Thanks. My impression might not sound like a huge compliment, but what I noticed was that it didn't make a huge impression on me. I had it on and it created a nice mood. Some music is like that. It's one of the drawbacks to some of my favorite artists like Prince. You can't really just put him on in the background without Vanessa Bartholemew or something else jarring breaking the mood. It demands attention. Something that I really appreciate about electronic music (though I am no expert) is that it doesn't always demand your attention. It's part of the surroundings. And like a nice couch, you might notice it, love it, and someday you might even wonder how you lived without it. So your mix, for better or worse, set nicely in the background. Nina Hagen edit I think I hadn't been in the room when this one played. I can't call this background music I have heard the name, but not the music. Very interesting! I thought for a second that maybe I knew the song, but it was actually similar to something I wrote. I didn't sing it quite the same though... [Edited 7/11/08 10:14am] My Legacy

But that is just a first impression. I am familiar with several of the artists, like PJ, Cocteau Twins, Radiohead. They are not exactly electronic artists, and yet they fit into this mix nicely. I like that you were able to blend the more song-oriented artists with the more ambient artists. My Legacy

Valgeir Sigurðsson // A Symmetry // Ekvílibríum
This song is great. I like stuff like boards of canada and this fits in brilliantly with their best work. Will check out more of this guy, hope it holds up! PJ Harvey // The Wind // Is This Desire? PJ, mmh, I like that 'down by the water' song with the mutron bass, but somehow she doesn't get me. I think it's her voice. Also this song, I love the guitar, the whispering echo of the lyrics, even the melody, it's just the sound of her voice. It's a little too much, I don't know, theatrical? Sometimes Tori Amos heas the same effect. It really is a nice haunting song though! Colder // Confusion // Again HamsterHuey said: I hate no longer working at the record store.
Hehe, I am so happy to still be working in a shop! Colder, I like the hard, repetitive bass. I probably liked it a lot better as an instrumental track. Weird effects on the vox, no. Check your computer would have been an apt title for your compilation however! Broken Social Scene // Feel Good Lost Reprise // To Be You And Me EP Pretty little ditty, a breather. Doesn't really happen too much here... The Cocteau Twins // Alice // Volaine Single Thanks for the explanation of Elizabeth. Great song, I only know cocteau twins by name. I cannot name one song. Great voice, great song! Built-up, melodies intertwine. Excellent! Antony & The Johnsons // The Lake // The Lake EP This guy! Music mags rave about him. I simply cannot take this guy. Nina Simone in a bad way. Can't even try to block out the voice... The Knife // We Share Our Mothers’ Health // Silent Shout I guess I liked their song on the promo mixtape better. It's a little too harsh. A little too hectic. This might be where your compilation loses a bit of flow. Could also be because of Antony before it. Nina Hagen Band // Naturträne // Nina Hagen Band Nina along with that dutch dude, I cannot take in. I don't like my music too theatrical, it loses the real emotion, it's credibility. When the drums kick in and she sings without lyrics, it does grab me. She is kinda fierce... Røyksopp // What Else Is There? (featuring Karin Dreijer) // The Understanding I liked Royksopp when they were hyped. Melody A.M is where it's at. The understanding, the album, doesn't do it for me. Nice song though, most pop-oriented song in your mix, but no, too bland. Radiohead // The Amazing Sound Of Orgy (non album track) // Pyramid Song Single Radiohead, always have had great respect for the band. I understand that Pearl Jam feeling! And second it. They do keep evolving though. They bring strong emotions, I'm not sure I want to feel! I select Valgeir as my fave track! Nice one Herman. I didn't know any of those songs. And even got two, three names to look out for! [Edited 7/11/08 3:59am]

Hehehe, I knew my love for 'off'-artists might lose some of ya'll, but that's okay. I must admit that I am drawn to artists with non-typical voices, hence the Antony's, Bjork's and Nina's in my catalogue.
I am currently working on a mixtape on the side; a nice mixtape that showcases my love for popsongs. I'l keep you posted.

You just had your time in the spotlight. You even made a 'demo', which was a false excuse to make two muxtapes. Now you want a third? It's Cinnie-time now! (Everybody stop, Cinnie-time)

It sounds like the "unofficial" way. Does this mean I can keep my 14 tracks? I'm having a terrible time deleting any ~ But I may have it figured out. Music is the language of the spirit.
