And why did you call it "Plotting an Escape?" Or shall you keep quiet on that and leave us to ponder it? hmmm

Can't wait to get into the office later today and hear this comp! dancing jig

I will say before I listen that Colder's "To The Music" used to get spun a lot in goth clubs here a few years ago. I haven't heard much more from them so I'll be playing close attention to their song that you chose. smile

Awright! This is why I wanted the threads to be open and the links freely available; I love it when I can share my fave artists with people, so they can check them out.

Agree wholeheartedly!!!

I think it would be nice if everyone picked one song as his/her favorite! We could make a 'best of' Org Music Club compilation that way! lol

My vote goes to Valgeir Sigurdsson!!!

Love the fact that you put a instrumental track at fourth place as a breather before you go into Cocteau twins. Anyway, I'll stop now before I run out of gas for my full write-up review somewhere this week.

Valgeir Sigurðsson // A Symmetry

A nice choice as intro track, The Björk vibe is all over it. (I know they did stuff together Shame there are no vocals to sing.

7/10

PJ Harvey // The Wind

Very triop-hopish. Always love this song

9/10

Colder // Confusion

The repetitive nature of the song is very uncanny. Actually it spoils the fun of the song. Krawftwerkish moments.

2/10

Broken Social Scene // Feel Good Lost Reprise
Ambient track. Not my cup of tea

2/10

The Cocteau Twins with Dead Can Dance // Alice

Superb song. Must be the first song I ever heard from them...
10/10

Antony & The Johnsons // The Lake

One of my all-time favorite Antony tunes...and thanks to you.

11/10

The Knife // We Share Our Mothers’ Health

I like this one.

7/10

Nina Hagen Band // Naturträne

What a voice...

10/10

Røyksopp // What Else Is There? (featuring Karin Dreijer)

The only true pop song of this mix. I prefer the live version.

8/10

Radiohead // The Amazing Sound Of Orgy

Not my cup of tea.

2/10

Overall, I guess I would not put these songs on my ipod. Some songs are great, but they do not flow. There's no balance. Also in terms of thematic, escape is usually associated with energic songs, not overtly melancholic tunes.

Still I give an 8/10 for the ecletic mix

Is funny you say it does not flow; to my ears it flows perfectly. I love how things sound differently to others.

Thanks for the review, mate. And check out the Cocteau Twins; I am sure you like them.

Just think, there are 15 more of these comps by fellow orgers coming up in the next few months. Huey will be a tough act to follow.

Valgeir Sigurðsson // A Symmetry - Beautiful! I remember you starting a thread about this person, but being a typical xenophobic American, his name scared me away from sampling anything. I was very surprised!

PJ Harvey // The Wind - I already own this song and even though it's on one of my least fave PJ albums, the song is still very good. And this is exactly what I imagined when inserting a PJ song into an electronic mix.

Colder // Confusion - Not Bad. I like the drum pattern the most. Not as appealing as the other Colder songs I've heard ("To The Music", "Wrong Baby"), but still pretty cool.

Broken Social Scene // Feel Good Lost Reprise - This is more like an interlude to me than a song. There is a nice ambient/ethereal feel to it.

The Cocteau Twins // Alice - Awesome! I have this song too (on Lullabies To Violaine, Vol. 2), but I totally didn't remember it! How is that possible for a song so amazing? hmm Is it really a duet with Dead Can Dance? eek I didn't know that.

Antony & The Johnsons // The Lake - Like Lammastide, I'm not a fan of Antony Hagerty's voice, but it sounds okay here. And I like the sparse piano too.

The Knife // We Share Our Mothers’ Health - Definitely one of the better songs on Silent Shout. nod "Like A Pen" was on an earlier version of my mix tape. Great selection.

Nina Hagen Band // Naturträne - I was impressed by the beauty of this track! Like most people, my only exposure to Nina is "New York, New York" and I expected most of her work to be very grating which this definitely was not.

Røyksopp // What Else Is There? (featuring Karin Dreijer) - Another song with Karin from The Knife! woot! I've heard Røyksopp songs here in there, but this is the first one that really made me take notice.

Radiohead // The Amazing Sound Of Orgy (non album track) - I would probably be a bigger Radiohead fan if the first thing I heard by them wasn't "Creep". Amnesiac is an album I always intended to get because I heard it was sort of Kid A part II (the only Radiohead album I own). Maybe I will now even though this song is only on the "Pyramid Song" single.

I think the entire mix flows together very well and has an otherworldly feel making the "Plotting An Escape" title very apt. Great compilation of songs!

Thanks for that review. Like I said to Mike, the way how music flows is in the ear of the beholder. To me it is an easy thing, as I love all these songs.

And when I started compiling, I had two choices; or make something close to my heart, with artists/songs people already knew, but maybe not songs they would be familiar with or make something really obscure, but when trying that, it felt really wrought and show offish, so I went for the know.

And in SOME cases, like Sexton and Mike, I knew I'd be including songs they would already familiar with, just because our musical tastes run aside the same paths or because I have been hipping certain artists on threads, like The Knife and Valgeir Sigurðsson.

But that was an 'oh well' kind of thing. Like said before; I had a lot of fun compiling and I can't WAIT for the others, as we have an ecclectic bunch of music lovers.

This just the reprise, I wouldn't call it an actual song either. The 'Feel Good Lost' album is 95% instrumental and of awesome musical quality, with sogs and soundscapes! BSS is worth checking out!

True, but the internet make hunting for new stuff fun too.

Just take www.cokemachineglow.com
I found some of my latest musical loves from that site. Without them I''ld never heard of Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins or Iron And Wine.

True but the internet is limiting, mainly because it shuts alot of people out of the process. I mean i have talked to alot of people that used to shop with us and they say they dont even care about music anymore, they dont try the net because they dont have a good computer speed and have no patience to sit there and wait for something like a download of a sample and then have to download the book and the lyrics and the artwork.

I know this has been said before but really, this forum is a treasure for all of us. I know I am not alone in discovering new music here. It can take the place of all the hassle you just mentioned. nod

This is the first proper mix I have ever heard from you mushy

What you said to begin this thread, that your mix became much more a mirror of your soul than you expected, the same happened to me and I totally identify with what you're saying. Mine has become quite the personal statement. And like you, I had a bunch of extras leftover. I kept pulling in and kicking out, pulling in and kicking out till I had my final 10. I have 35 leftovers lol

The first song sets this mix off spectacularly! I am so bummed I even peaked at any of the thread or the track list on muxtape cuz I would have been slammed to the ground when The Wind came on had I not known in advance mad Everything off Desire is magic touched

Like you, I am very connected to my sadness and that becomes a place where some of my deepest and most profound expressions occur and the place where I find some of the most beautiful treasures. I absolutely love this mix for the mood it possesses. There is so much longing, so much ache, so much beauty…..

Favorite song - My first reaction was to Broken Social Scene. Anything that instantly makes me want to cry is a keeper! But I nominate The Knife "We Share Our Mother's Health" for the mix off favorites! biggrin So quirky and disjointed, just fantastic like a Frankenstein clapping But now I have heard Nina Hagen's Naturetrane and that is my pick. ABSOLUTELY!!! worship

Gutteral

I respect, admire and worship that kind of expression. Even if I can't understand what she is actually saying. I think with this crowd you won't find the resistance to the song you initially felt you might. I could listen to it a thousand times and it speaks to me in ways so interesting and vital considering the language barrier. What a fantastic fucking song! clapping It makes my heart ache that I'm not capable of doing so with my voice. I'll have to settle for words and music instead….

I have read the lyrics you provided for this song and now I'm haunted. Fabulous cry

Did I ever tell you, or did you read, about my seeing Nina in an LA bar? It was hilarious lol

This mix has made me realize some of my musical limitations. Not that I don't have an eclectic collection, and not that I don't love everything that is on here but I only had one of these songs and I realize how much my musical world still needs expanding. I am familiar with 5 of the artists, but only 2 of whom I have their works.

This is something I will be listening to many many times, especially alone. Thank you for starting this thing off right. I love your beauty mushy hug kisses
