Jay-Z opening his Glastonbury set with Wonderwall If anyone knows the back story of Noel Gallagher saying Jay-Z shouldn't be allowed to headline Glastonbury. They know how fucking briiliant it was of Jay to open with Noel's most well known song!!! Yes, I know he can't sing, or play guitar, but that's not the point!!!

SUPERB! Thanks for posting this Paris. My respect for Jay Z has goe through the roof. THIS is how you answer a moron - you take their best known moment and play it for laughs. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Very cool. But a couple things... 1) Why didn't this start a fight back stage? 2) Why does Mr. Carter look like Meshell Ndegeocello here? Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I hope this puts Oasis in their place. Everytime they have a new album the press in the UK fawns over them like they have something new when it is just the same old. And I was impressed with how hard Jay Z worked the stage. I'd like to see Oasis do that!

Jay Z is beyond untalented and I am not a fan of Oasis but I do not think they deserve to be jumped because they are not Jay-Z fans. Everybody kisses Jay-Z's ass and it was good for someone to speak up about it.

My respect levels for Jay went up 100%. Brilliant performance. And that opening.. "for those of you that didn't get the memo, i'm Jay Z, and i'm pretty fucking amazing" Check this out for my favourite moment: http://www.youtube.com/wa...fuY51soR8M "London, i've adopted a name that has no pronounciation.... is that cool with you?"
"YEAH!!!" "Yeah, well then fuck those other fools!"

I really enjoyed watching that live last night. Jay Z was also interviewed on Jonathan Ross the other day and he explained why Rap/Hip Hop doesn't always work well live but how he was going to do it with a proper band. He was right about everything he said.

Too bad in reality Jay is a bigger hypocrit than anyone. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

It simply does not work well live and a lot of the performers are untalented. Now adays about 90% of the lyrics suck no one will learn to play a fucking instrutment and come up with some original music. I will not even go into the need for rappers to promote violence, drug-dealing and the total disrepect of woman.

That would be like me saying Rock & Roll sucks because all they talk about is Devil Worship, Drug Use, Violence, and disrespect of women!!! Or saying Country Music is trash because they promote racism, drunkenness, adultery!!! You might as well say that Michael Jackson is a piece of shit, 'cause he doesn't play an instrument, doesn't write his own songs, and he lip syncs!!! Rappers may not play instruments, but neither did Frank Sinatra. Hell, Frank didn't even write his own songs!!! Hip-Hop isn't the greatest live genre, but artists like Jay-Z, The Roots, and Mos Def are fantastic live!!! JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

I stopped listening to Rock & Roll when I realized the lyrical content stretches over to other topics as well.

Jays band is really tight. Judging by the youtube clips he eems to have brought a lot of energy to his performance. One of my complaints about live hip-hop shows is the absence of a live band. Obviously his wasnt the case here. Looks like dude rocked it.

I hope the J Ross interview gets put up online soon. Jay-Z went into an explanation of why Hip Hop doesn't work live and a lot of rappers aren't even that great as live performers. It made sense the way he explained it.

Lame...what was the point of strapping a guitar on
that he DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO PLAY...that was kind of embarassing

haha, that's great. I have never really liked Jay as a rapper, he seems as bored as me while I'm listening, but he's a very bright guy.
The problem with that clip is it made me realize I kind of like Oasis, too, and that is a horrifying realization! I may have to go kill myself. My Legacy

For him to strap on a Guitar that he can't play is riduculous and just proves how rap sucks live. I am putting down the whole genre because you can't name anyone in rap that is doing anything with real music except the Roots. One group out of hundreds is a bad track record. Lil Wayne just sold a million cds he is the first rapper to do this in over 3 years. People are not buying this shitty music. Teens are buying it as ringtones. I don't think I need to say anymore than that about rap. The reality is no rap group is going to get air play unless thay are doing something ignorant and I no a lot of music fans who are sick of it. "Michael Jackson is a piece of shit" Well he is but that has more to do with little boys and not music.

"Michael Jackson is a piece of shit" Well he is but that has more to do with little boys and not music. You just reminded me why I hate visiting the org... bitching, stereotyping, a general disregard for others preferences, Jay-Z more than anyone else probably knows he can't play a guitar, IT WAS DONE TO TAKE THE PISS! and the crowd loved it, your remark about rap sucking live reminded me of the music journals back in 84 when they said rap will never sell in the long player format and that it's just a fad, they actually thought acts would only sell 12's, 'LiL Wayne just sold a million cds', you must understand sales have nothing to do with good music, the best hip hop acts are the underground ones, who generally sell very little. The controversy of Jay-Z's selection as a headlining act and his performance has significantly helped to secure a future of the Glastonbury festival for at least another four years, so the music press are having to eat their own words again and have been for the past 24 years now. I have the whole Jay-Z Glasto performance on dvd and to be honest I wish I was there. Maybe it's just not in your blood.
