Duran Duran...Red Carpet Massacre

I like it.
At first, I was very skeptical. No Andy? Timberland? Timberlake?
Doesn't sound promising.
Wrong.
Duran kept enough of their current sound to meld the with the two "T"'s to come up with a cool album.
Very "Indi" sounding.
Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

This album still just doesnt do it for me, being a Duran fan from the get go i too was worried about this and even more when i heard Andy pretty much walked off because there was no need for Guitar. Now though im not big Andy fan, i think Warren brought more to them, not having either was this records problem. It sounds too empty, devoid of life, which is fine for Nelly Furtado or Britney but this is Duran. Though i do like some of this record, overall its just off. And sometimes when im not into a record that much, a tour helps me and hearing the tracks LIVE, but not this time, i saw them in NYC last month, and still for the most part wasnt feeling the new stuff on this album, i wouldnt be surprised to see MAJOR changes with the next record

one of my favorite DD albums...Not as great as the debut or Notorious....but it's excellent!

Wow.
Like I said above, at first listen, I was unimpressed.
Gave it a few spins, and forgave the two "T"'s, and realized it was OK.
Not the debut,
Not Astronaut,
but cool.
Missing Andy and/or Warren BIG time.
Duran always had a cool rock approach to their sound.
Not this time. Too cool for the two "T"'s.

I'm not a Duranie, but my wife is....This album sounds pretty good to me though. A bit of a departure from their previous stuff. Definately a grower...I'm gonna be checking them out this Thurs at the 02 Arena, so I'll be able to see whether the songs translate live.

I like night runner and sky divers, the rest sounds promising, but the cover sucks! I think I'm going to warm up to it now that I like what T & T did with madonna.

I love that record.
I'm not really a hard core Duran Duran fan, so the fact it was different from their older stuff didn't bother me.

It's a good album, "Falling Down" fucked up the album's potential though.

Nite Runner or Skin Divers should have been the 1st single.

It's an excellent record. I will say for the 11th time that "Cry Baby Cry" was the best song of the sessions, so I have no idea how it ended up as a bonus track.

It was a poorly timed release, and all the backing of the record was done by Duran themselves. Basically records that come out late october are nothing more than a label "dumping" out what they have no need to promote, the Seal record got the same treatment.

I don't think it was the best song from these sessions but it def should've been included on the regular album. It's cool funky little tune.
For sure. cool

BTW,
I read somehwhere (Billboard ?) that Duran would like to release the album they scrapped with Andy before doing RCM.
I think Nick said it's a very "Indi rock" sounding album similar to their real early years. He also said he's very proud of the songs.
Maybe later in the year or early 2009. We'll see.

Went to see them at the 02 Arena last night and they were really good. The new stuff translated well I reckon. They even had a Kraftwerk-esque techno section in the middle of the set where everyone was behind the keys. They also played a segment of Grace Jones' 'Warm Leatherette'.A good night, even though the crowd were lacklustre at times. They only wanted to hear the old stuff, which I suppose happens alot at these type of gigs...

I like the album but it's not great like I thought it would be. I sampled it months ago but randomly bought it cause of timbaland, and it's alright but not great.
