Jennifer Hudson - Spotlight Her newest single is really doing it for me. I like it a lot! Clean powerful vocals, smooth groove and awesome flow. Can we show some love for true talent around here?
PS: The real video for the song is nice too, I saw it during the pre-show of the BET awards but couldn't find it on youtube...yet, anyway! I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Really? To each his own and all that. I like it though and I'm interested in hearing what else she has in store for her debut album. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I'm not feeling this song either. I have tried several times to like it, but I always go past it. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Here's the problem with Jennifer - she's a singer who can actually sing. The problem with that is, what do you do with somebody like that in this day and age when the people who are her actual fans are a fan of her singing voice? If you get her singing material like this, her voice is not the star. You barely notice what she's capable of, because the material she's singing (I think) is subpar. It's the production you notice.
Of all the singers to come out of that show, her voice is arguably the one that got the most notice; both while she was on the show and since that time. She's a belter and right now, this is not a market for singers. It's a producer's market right now. I'm sure that's what's taking so long to get a full-length album released, because the labels don't know what to do with her.

I know she was part of a one-off benefit performance of Hair in 2004, but I don't think anything beyond that.

I agree with you, but it seems like the record company is trying to make Jennifer a pop star/singer and she is not that. She is a broadway/gospel singer. If she was in Smokey Joe's Cafe, she would win a Tony. Jennifer Holiday's record company (Geffen) tried to market her after "And I Am Telling You" did so well. It didn't work either. She did manage to have a few minor r&b hits, but nothing that was substantial. Maybe if they got some real writers and producers to work with her instead of Ne-Yo (maybe someone like Babyface, Raphael Saadiq, etc.) she would probably get a better product. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

A friend of mine was in that show with her. He said as nice as she was/is, even then (pre-Dreamgirls) she travelled with an entourage. She's also in the upcoming film adaptation The Secret Life of Bees with Queen Latifah. http://www.worstpreviews....155&item=0

And I would love to hear her do a Motown-esque album with Lenny Kravitz, as he did with Vanessa Paradis and Brandy's track on that barman album. She would be able to stretch her vocal chords a bit more and she'd be OUT there, promise.

She barely registers in the role - it could have been anybody. Actually, I think Gabrielle Union would have been a much better choice. At least she would have brought some personality to the part. [Edited 7/5/08 10:49am]

The song is boring as hell, but it's nice 2 hear Jennifer reel it in 4 a change. That's why she always annoyed me on "American Idol", U don't have 2 peel the paint off the walls with every single song U sing. U can hit the money notes-we get it. Her per4mance as Effie was great because it calls 4 that kind of vocalist. But her version of "Easy to be Hard" from the 'Hair' benefit cast? REDONK. Listen to me on The House of Pop Culture podcast on itunes http://itunes.apple.com/u...d438631917

this song reminds me of that hit song "Caught Up" - in a one night love affair.
except that Jennifer's song is completely empty and void of everything that made that old song great. I'm not sure what it would take to make someone like Jennifer Holiday successful in today's music industry.- mainstream wise i mean. i think she should continue going down the acting road and go indie so she can do the kind of music that she wants to do-but i'm sure that's easier said than done.
