Steinksi & Double Dee finally have a legit "Lessons" CD Free MP3 downloads available here http://www.djouls.com/
Nabbed this from emusic last week. I hadn't heard most of this stuff since high school, 24 years ago. Damn. The "Lesson" singles are still considered among the important early hip-hop records, and they spread mostly through bootlegs. Waaaayyy too many samples to clear & release, even for the 80s. It's hip-hop reduced to pure samples and DJ cutting. The rappers are pushed far to the background when they can be heard at all. A reduction of everything to its hottest 15-second breakbeat. Listening today they're still remarkable. They grasped what a lot of mash-up artists today are missing; the joke's not funny if the beat's not funky. They're the most unstoppable novelty records ever made. Any other fans?

Their songs came out on the DJ pool series called Disconet originally which a friend and I dug up. There was also this handy 2002 compilation which continues to tell the story with Cut Chemist and DJ Shadow's lesson 4's. There was a volume two as well that had more cut-and-paste songs.
