Will New Edition ever make it into the RRHOF??

Considering they have been around on and off since the 80's and have sold millions of copies I think the answer is yes!! Do they fit the criteria for making it in?? How cool would it be to see Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike, Ralph and Johnny at the ceremony getting their props.

I don't think New Edition should qualify to be in the RRHOF. Not ever anyway. I think I consider them to be major influences to many boy bands today, but they haven't really made much of a contribution in changing the music landscape.

These are artists that need to be in the RRHOF quickly:

Donna Summer
WAR
Hall & Oates
Chaka Khan (or Rufus)
Patti Labelle
Kool & The Gang
Nina Simone
Burt Bacharach

Yeah, the Jackson 5 are in it so why not, lol. But keep New Kids, Backstreet and N-SYNC out. lol

Shit, they need to put the damn Miracles, Imperials, Marvelettes, Mary Wells and Joe Tex before that tho...oh and Donna Summer too.

As is the case with such honors, it's going to come down to how do the mainstream (white pop) powers-that-be view New Edition. IMO, they are viewed by that segment more as a collection of solo acts than as a collective unit that happened to have solo success (a la The Beatles).

Almost forgot:

Gene Chandler
The Commodores
Jesse Belvin

...you can complete the list.

I know a lot of female rockers that should've been in it too:
Joan Jett
Pat Benatar
Linda Ronstadt (in the 1970s she was the shit)

There's too many people missing in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s that should've already been in it! rolleyes

It's funny they induct the Sex Pistols (who I credit for exposing the Hall for what they are by denying their induction) but they don't induct someone like Edwin Starr or someone like that. lol

The problem is I don't believe the general public sees New Edition in that regard. To the powers-that-be for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, from a white society standpoint N.E. was a group that had some level of success but were more known for the solo successes of Bell Biv DeVoe, Johnny Gill, Ralph Tresvant and Bobby Brown than a collective success.

For that matter, the general public didn't even know Bobby Brown was a former member because his identity was formed as a solo artist with the "Don't Be Cruel" album.

you know what you touched on a good point and now that i think about it bobby could possibly get in the rrhof before NE does because he was a hot solo act. who doesn't know bobby brown's songs? he had quite a few hits.

The best selling point for New Edition is that it was a successful act on the R&B scene (with a few Hot 100 hits hitting the top 10) who became one of the few acts where each member had a platinum album as a solo act (I believe The Beatles are the only other act with that claim to fame). IMO, that is how N.E. is regarded by the general public -- I can't see them being inducted without being recognized in that fashion.

No member of New Edition will be inducted as a solo act, because none of them had sustaining sucess. Their best shot is as a group and their collective impact as solo acts.

funksterr

They had almost no pop success as 'New Edition' and that will hurt them.
Bobby Brown has the best shot because he had a major pop career going for awhile. Even though I'm a huge NE fan, I would not be mad if they did not get in the hall.
