And Destiny's Child has been played out for quite a while. And the "old" line doesn't phase anyone -- when you're 17, 18 years old someone 25 is old to you.

I think EnVogue was poorly managed?....all of that talent and just no direction.

Absolutely! I have to admit, as much as I like their voices both collectively and individually, I don't think their talent matched the material they were given. I'm not saying they didn't have good songs, because they certainly did. But their singles were much better than their albums. So much talent, so-so material and too much drama behind the scenes. lol

And EV over DC fer shur like totally.

En Vogue.I like their first two albums, especially songs like "Don't Go","Hip Hop Lover","Love Don't Love You","You Don't Have To Worry" and a few others.

I can honestly say that I don't like any of Destiny's Child's songs barf They had so many crap songs,it's absurb."Soldier" and "Survivor" are two of the WORST songs I heard this decade!

EN VOGUE - gotta love the "funky divas" album... "the writing is on the wall" was quite good though.

I have to go with EnVogue. I'm not quite getting the argument against some of the act's material, because "Born to Sing" and "Funky Divas" IMO were fine albums. Unfortunately, those two albums plus "Runaway Love," "Whatta Man" and "Don't Let Go" sum up their careers. I certainly can understand if the criticism is for EnVogue's work afterwards.

It's no argument - it's just my opinion. I like their singles more than their albums, at least the two albums I have - Born to Sing and Funky Divas, particularly the latter.

I guess that's where opinions differ. If you were talking about EnVogue's albums after "Funky Divas" I would agree with you. But out of curiosity, I would like to know what songs from those two albums you didn't like (considering about one-third of the songs from each album was released as a single).

I don't have either album in front of me, so I can't go through the track listing one by one without listening. But with the first one, a lot of the material sounds the same. It's Foster & McElroy's production style. I like them, and I liked them with Club Nouveau but they weren't very adventurous behind the mixing boards.

The tracks that come to mind on Funky Divas...
It Ain't Over Till the Fat Lady Sings is skrate up embarrassing. The Yesterday remake is bad both as a harmony and the production. Free Your Mind always makes me cringe. The two remakes from Sparkle were good but for me offered little (if anything) over the originals. This Is Your Life was just shrug

Alternately, I love Desire, Give It Up, Turn It Loose, My Lovin'...

eek You don't like "Free Your Mind"?! Wow. I love all those songs you mentioned (although "Yesterday" is nothing special). I wish "This Is Your Life" didn't have all the talking and whatnot. "It Ain't Over..." is just silly fun for me (a little like "Strange" on the first album).

At the beginning of the decade, I seriously thought it was so much like the early 90's but with younger artists, and that Destiny's Child was the new En Vogue, though not as great as them vocally. I preferred DC's music though En Vogue has had great songs like Free Your Mind and Don't Let Go.

I can agree with most of that. That stock Foster-McElroy sound had gotten stale and predictable by the time "Funky Divas" came out. I liked "Born to Sing" better than "Funky Divas," particularly "Hold On," "You Don't Have to Worry," "Don't Go" and "Waitin' on You."

Strange. That's the one I was trying to think of. No, I don't like that one either. lol And, no, Free Your Mind is painful for me. Too much screaming. Felt like a bad rip off of Black Cat.

"Strange," their hip-hop/new jack version of "Bugle Boy" and "It Ain't Over 'Til the Fat Lady Sings" I took as a silly songs to exaggerate (but yet highlight) their vocal abilities, nothing to be taken seriously. I can deal with those songs.

I have to agree with you on "Free Your Mind;" that actually used to be the song I left off recording "Funky Divas" on tape until it was released as a single and became a Top 10 pop hit.

I forgot to mention another song I liked on "Born to Sing:" "Time Goes On."

sometimes when I heard leads on dc songs I thought beyonce was singing the good parts and it was really kelly but you wouldn't know until you saw the video.(jmo). I think kelly gets played to the left to the left. The company knows that kelly has potential and is less shy, but won't do much for her because of industry standards. envoge were funky and they did a better job of remakes.

I'd take all but Maxine over Beyoncé, particularly if she wanted to talk. lol Her speaking voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

You are preaching to the choir my friend! I think Beyonce is sexy and talented just like the next guy, but that being said, when she speaks I just want to throw a rock at her. Shudup woman. Take a public speaking class. And take a few years off. She is so overexposed, even if I wanted to like her, I couldn't because everytime you turn around, there she is, be it Destiny's Child, Her solo shit, her acting, her commercials, her interviews or her personal life. I liked "Strange" altho I felt like I was at a circus in the beginning with the music. Other than that, I loved Remix to Sing. "Free Your Mind" is another favorite, it spoke to me. "Desire: is my #1 En Vogue song. I used to play the heck outta that song.

Man, I feel you on that statement. However, you must know that Beyonce is 1000% better than she was when she first started.

I met Beyonce and the rest of Destiny's Child in Dallas almost 10 years ago when their first project dropped (No No No) and all I could say was how fine they were and how beautiful Beyonce was. When I got a spoke to her and started asking a few questions, I realized that she was probably the most ghetto person that I had ever met.

Well, when their 2nd album dropped, I started seeing them promote it (pre-Letoya and Latavia leaving) on talkshows and she had improved A LOT. So, I believe the record company hired someone to coach her. By the time "Say My Name" hit, she was a hell of a lot better than before.

It's funny you say that, because my main problem is that everything she says seems so calculated. I've always had the impression she plans out and practices everything she's going to say beforehand. I can appreciate wanting to improve your image, but she has always struck me as disingenuous and plastic.

I totally agree with you. When she was promoting Dreamgirls, in a lot of the press junkets (where different interviewers ask the same questions over and over again), she kept the same answer for EVERYTHING!! Especially when it came to the question of Jennifer Hudson outshining her in the film. It was always the generic answer that they "both love each others work and admire each other".
