KISS - "Great Expectations"

KISS - Destroyer (1976)

lol I love this song. It's like a beautiful, touching anthem to groupies. touched I don't know who's idea it was to add the chorus (Ezrin, I assume) but it works in this song. Other KISS album are good, but this one is my favorite. They were talking directly to their audience with just about every song on here. As a teenager, that's got to be an incredible feeling, especially true of King of the Night Time World.

The album version...

A demo version I'd never heard before without the chorus

You're sittin' in your seat
And then you stand and clutch your breast
Our music drives you wild along with the rest

You watch me singing this song
You see what my mouth can do
And you wish you were the one I was doing it to

And you watch me playin' guitar
And you feel what my fingers can do
And you wish you were the one I was doing it to
Well, listen

You've got great expectations
You've got great expectations

You're dying to be seen
And you wave and call my name
But in the day it seems that I'm a million miles away

You watch me beatin' my drum
And you know what my hands can do
And you wish you were the one I was doing it to
Well, listen

You've got great expectations
You've got great expectations
You've got great expectations

Then you feels these eyes from the stage
And you see me staring at you
And you hear between the lines, my voice is calling to you
Well, listen

You've got great expectations
You've got great expectations
You've got great expectations, do you want to play the role
You've got great expectations, you'd even sell me your soul

Well, I was talking about the music... have you seen the version they did in Australia, with the boys choir?

It's always had a boys choir, but if you're referring to a recent live version - I refuse to watch. Love them though I do, they should have long ago retired their live act.

It was the Kiss Symphony thing they did a couple of years ago and when it comes to their ballads I think "Great expectations" is their worst! I prefer "Beth", "Hard luck woman" and "Goin blind"!

I think their live act is as great as ever! 12.000 people yesterday were celebrating them!

It's all about preference. I prefer not to watch a bunch of 853-year-old men in tight leather pretending they've not aged. lol

And Great Expectations - I don't consider it a ballad at all. shrug

Yeah, I kinda see what you mean, Paul Stanley had like a oversize leather belt on and it kinda looked like it was hard to breath for him or that that thing would shoot off like a mf any second! wink But other than that it was great!

Not? Then what is then?
