I've been listening to a downloaded version of Hard Candy until I bought the Vinyl edition this past weekend (Worth every penny of the 30.00 I spent). I thought I just had a crappy copy of the song, but no...the whole track is distorted. Does anyone else hear this? It's like the lows have been driven down and there is now heavy distortion in the track.

Pisses me off when people are too lazy to fix stuff like that.

I never listen to this track.It's one of the two songs that I don't really care for.I think it's a boring way to end the album.

It is indeed horrible. Sounds totally out of sync with the rest of the album.
I actually like the song, maybe some enterprising fan will clean it up?

I read in an interview regarding the production and apparently the distortion is intentional - it's been used a few times on Timberlands tracks. I didnt bookmark the interview - sorry.

I noticed it on the leak too and thought it would be fixed on the released version.

C'mon, it is totally distorted!

Perhaps it was recorded or mixed that way and couldn't be saved in the mastering stage.

don't like the song anyway. my album ends with Spanish Lesson.

yeah people been complaining about that. The drum track kinda doesnt match with the rest evenly tuned..it sounds off.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense. Two of my favorite albums of the last couple years, Sleater-Kinney's The Woods and the Go Betweens' Oceans Apart had this same problem throughout the whole albums, and I'm hoping they'll go back to the master tapes or alternate takes and redo them.

What master tapes?

I didn't notice. It's one of my favorite songs on the album. I always prefer her moody stuff over the "hey!!! " stuff that she does.

I like "Voices" a lot. It goes along with songs from "Erotica," "Future Lovers," "Like it Or Not," some of the darker stuff from "Ray of Light" - she should really do an entire record of darker, more melancholy and textured, moody songs like this one.

I'm still lukewarm on Hard Candy as a whole for some reason. I listen to it a lot, but for some reason it's like the whole is LESS than the sum of it's parts - there is a handful of truly great songs:

Heartbeat
She's not Me
Incredible
Voices

"Dance 2Nite" would also be a fave if Justin's ass weren't in the mix. "beat goes on" is good, but i so prefer the original version. "candy shop" and "4 minutes" will be good concert numbers, but they are pretty dead on wax. "Miles Away" was only good the first few spins...and "Devil" is pure crap. I dunno...this album feels half assed in lots of places.
