All crap. They have no identities other than the ones they try to bite. Their music sounds like what you'd hear if you dropped a bunch of silverware down the stairs. I mean come the hell on. Daft Punk? Eff out of here with that garbage. There are ten year olds that can come up with the same stuff.

Anyway,

The people complaining are of different generations including this one.

And people aren't complaining about the sound and/or style like other generations did(because children, THERE IS NO SOUND or STYLE), they're complaining about the total lack of soul, originality, personality, and OOMPF.

The problem is that most of these acts, even the little neosoul douches, are as real as a bag of cheetos and have about the same amount of talent.

I am quite astounded by your bias and cynicism towards modern music. All I can say at this point about that is that if you're in that desperate need of some music from the past, go study some quantum physics, build a time machine, travel back to the 70's and STAY THE FUCK THERE!!!

Cynical bastard. rolleyes

I was thinking of 1999. Name a song before Little Red Corvette that was as big as that. Why does everyone call 1999 his breakthrough album?

Mainstream (white) markets were introduced to Prince via "Little Red Corvette," but by that time Prince was one of the top front-runners -- if not THE front-runner -- in the soul (black) market. "1999" predecessors "Dirty Mind" was a gold album and "Controversy" went platinum, and Prince had a No. 1 single ("I Wanna Be Your Lover") and several other hits ("Soft and Wet," "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?," "Uptown," "Controversy" and "Let's Work") by the time he dropped the "1999" album.

Another major factor for Prince was the success of his spin-off acts, The Time and Vanity 6. By the time Prince had crossover success, only Rick James and pre-"Thiller" Michael Jackson challenged him as the top dog in the soul market. The success of his "Minneapolis Sound" became the template for the soul charts for a large part of the '80s.

Thanx for schooling em amy. I thought maybe prince laid a few eggs before
Dirty Mind and Controversy. lol
Hell every black household and schools in my city had those albums.
We can even go back to his For You album for that matter. I mean i can't believe
a supposedly knowledgeble person who knows prince's music would embarrass himself making that statement. boogie

Objectively, though the way it gets expressed changes, IT REALLY IS the same thing our parents used to do us. You might call it the same tired excuse, but the truth never gets old, my friend.

Not at all. If every generation hates the changes in music, then why did my mother and most of her generation not complain about the changes in music until the shit hop era? It was then, that people started complaining about music in a total different way because it no longer contained instruments and it consisted of "talking" rather than singing. Look at all the folks during the disco era out in the discos dancing and partying. Those folks didn't grow up during that era. They were already grown (a child couldn't get in a disco). Those folks grew up during the Motown era a decade earlier. Those same folks were partying in the clubs in the early 1980s after disco's death (yet, another style change). Still no complaining.

Most of the generation before me didn't start complaining until shit hop took over. Most of my own generation didn't start complaining until shit hop took over. The generation before me had lived through several style changes and was cool with them. Same thing with my generation. The ones that did the major complaining was the much older generation that hated to see rock and roll take over (because of the fast "devil" rhythm). Yeah, lots of folks my age complain about the profanity in shit hop because they are grown and have kids. However, they also complain because it actually ain't shit because it contains no instruments and is dull as hell. And I, myself, have never complained about the profanity in shit hop. I love profanity. Profanity ain't the problem with me, it's the "nothingness" of the music in shit hop and the slow tempo that my great, great grandparents would have loved. No, our complaints are totally different than my grandparents complaints. If every generation complains, then why did the complaints skip the generation before mine until shit hop came along? It's because shit hop really is a "nothing" genre.
