How did I sleep on Vampire Weekend all this time?

They're actually a surprisingly good Indie Rock band from Brooklyn. They may possibly be carrying the Talking Heads torch. wink But I'd rather accept the group as themselves not a new Talking Heads.

See, I thought they were just another one of these run-of-the-mill herky jerky, let's copy the Gang of Four, hipster Indie Rock acts which are annoying me these days. But they've got some interesting things in their sound: Post-Punk, Afrobeat, Classical, Funk (maybe), Beatlesque Pop, etc. And they filter it through a cool Indie sound. They're definitely worh checking out. thumbs up!

The album is really solid; I've been playing it incessantly for the past month or so, and I've yet to come across a track that I think is filler or doesn't belong.

I've gotta say that my first listen through I kind of rolled my eyes and thought that I had been taken in by another Pitchfork band... But I gave it another play through, and I'm really glad I did. "M79" might be my song of the summer...Of course, so might "Walcott" and "A-Punk".

I came in skeptical at best.. but it's a grower.... I found myself singing Oxford Comma, A-Punk, and Cape Cod, so I bought it.

It's not the Talking heads (not even close in terms of groove and composition).... although there are elements like the post grad smart lyrics and the polyrhythms. The vocals can get get slightly annoying, but I still think it is a great summer album.
Music is the best...

Oh yes, they're nowhere near the brilliance of Talking Heads. But they are undeniably catchy. nod

WillyWonka

I'd not ever heard of them til a few months ago when they were the musical guest on SNL.

I really enjoyed them and intended to pick up their CD, but haven't yet.

Thanks for the reminder! biggrin
