SCNDLS said: applekisses said: I realize that - but, that doesn't mean I can't disagree with that! Or does that go only one way? AGAIN...inferring that my sister and mother are "disgusting, incorrigible, stupid bitches" is an attack. If you're just looking at "what's right" why don't you have an issue with that? Or is he just expressing his opinion? Sounds like a personal attack to me. [Edited 6/24/08 16:38pm] I guess me restating my point was ineffective and you're gonna read what you want to in what I'm saying. So like I said earlier it's not my job to sway your opinion cuz it's not that important to me. Obviously it is...you spent quite a bit of time restating whatever your point was. And I'm not reading what I want into your statements - I'm reading them at face value.

SCNDLS said: applekisses said: Actually, if you look back it was Ripher2shreds who brought up the whole asshole thing - and he just said "Grade A asshole commentary" in response to one of your replies to me. I didn't call you an asshole outright - and I didn't agree with him until you started to "give your opinion" about my family members - one of whom is dead. You know, it's not even that you disagree with me - that's fine, but it's the insensitivity and lack of empathy for people who go through addictions and their families that I think is so wrong. And for the record - there is only one person in this thread so far who agrees with your insensitivity...that's a little telling, don't you think? Hold 'em up, now. I didn't say that I agree with his insensitivity rather I just questioned where is it written that he MUST show empathy to people he doesn't know who engaged in behavior HE deems irresponsible. I'm just saying he's entitled to feel that way and express it if he wants to without being personally attacked if he's not attacking you. When he made the initial statements he was talking about Amy Winehouse and wasn't the only person that said it was her fault she was in the situation she's in. You're the one that brought your family into it, and rightly or wrongly, opened up the opportunity for someone with his point of view to say what he did, how he said it. Whether I agree with him is beside point. I think it's more telling that all these folks calling him an asshole think they're superior to him when all he did was state his opinion, like it or not. He didn't personally attack anyone, like others are doing to him now. To sum it up, being insensitive isn't against site rules (if that were the case, the Org would shut down immejetly), however, last time I checked, personally attacking people IS. [Edited 6/24/08 16:23pm] Uh...yeah he did.

Well...I learned a lot about some folks here. I think that was pretty valuable. It'll get locked soon, no worries.

Everyone! Can we take a breath and calm down for one second
OK first of all. I believe that SCNDLS is standing up for a principle by which we all benefit and that is to state our opinions whether they are popular or not. People are not required to be understanding or empathetic but it's nice to see that when someone is acting vile about something so personal that people will come out and denounce it. Many of us are heavily impacted by this kind of situation. Apples sister is dead from an overdose and I have a cousin who made really bad choices while high and ultimately she too is dead from those bad choices. Amy Winehouse is somewhat of a polarizing figure but that doesn't mean we automatically have to treat her like a piece of trash. she is human like the rest of us. Fallible and apt to make mistakes. Her mistakes are massive and playing out in front of the whole world. This is such a personal thing and we do invite responses, good or bad, when we share. I really like what madartista once said: ultimately, we are in control of all that happens in our life -- not by controlling what happens, but by determining how to respond to what does happen. Apples, I know how raw the issue is and some people are so evil they will feed on that rawness. Unfortunately that can be the nature of humanity, just like Amy making a bad choice, they too make wrong choices to hurt people. It's up to us who have been impacted and hurt to not accept someone's negativity and give them the power they seek. Apples Scndls I hope I am making some sense..... 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I suspect if we boil this down that Patrick probably has a story he can tell as well and is defensive on the issue for a reason. Honey, you can't take ownership of his bullshit. . Graycap23 said: BlaqueKnight said: Sorry. This chick wrote "Rehab". When that dropped, I lost all feelings of empathy for her. I don't care what anybody says. The reality of life is that you DON'T feel sorry for everyone all of the time. I don't feel sorry for singers and rappers who brag about selling drugs and get caught for drug possession. I don't feel sorry for singers who brag about substance abuse and then get sick or die from it. All of this "boo-hoo-hoo poor little Amy" crap is some BULL. She has always outwardly embraced her drug usage and her abuse of alcohol, in her music and in interviews. She had this coming. She was indirectly promoting this mentality and many on here embraced her perspectives as well. There are repercussions for every action and now she's getting hers. Let that be a lesson.

This thread has been a stroll through hell.
I think it has run its course, and since the facts of the original article are (thank God) in error, I think this thread should be locked. [Edited 6/24/08 18:48pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
