she's had so many chances to sort herself out, yet she's throwing her life away. She's obviously not a strong person, she seems to lean to drugs or alcohol when she's got a trivial boyfriend problem. Get a grip bitch! it's so ironic her first single had the lyrics : "He said 'the respect I made you earn, thought you had so many lessons to learn / I said 'you don't know what love is get a grip' yeah, its easy to pic apart someone elses life on the out side looking in. typically in situations like hers for regular people you have to totally remove your self from the people and surroundings and never ever go back. Its probably quite hard in her case, its sounds as though she has very few options and a small group of friend&relatives who rather her stay and die than one of them plucking her away from everything and never ever looking back.

Everybody knows the only reason marijuana isn't legal in the U.S. is because the government can't track and control it. This chick is on "other stuff(s)" and she admitted it in an interview before. I can't find it anymore but she's been very bold about her substance abuse; even to the point of writing songs about it. Live by the pipe; die by the pipe. regardless your argument was about promoting an unhealthy life style and influencing other people in a negative manner. maybe the weed doesn't hurt anyone, but the stigma and imagery around it does. Gangs, Prison, Guns, and Death are all thing that come to mind surrounding this drug. Certainly persons have been effected negatively, both those imitating these ideas and concepts and the by standers. I could easily spend a whole thread on that bolded statement alone. There is a deliberate reason that all of those things come to mind in association with it. Its called demonization. Instead of taking a plant that has more practical uses than most and implementing its usage, governments have chosen to demonize it. Hemp itself has a great deal of practical uses but...nevermind. I'm not even going there. I don't smoke or drink so it doesn't benefit me in a personal indulgence way to legalize it but scientifically, we could really use hemp. Homegirl is on synthetic drugs as well as alcohol and that's what's fucking her up. She openly bragged about not going to rehab. She didn't want help and planted the seed in the minds of others that perhaps its okay NOT to seek help and her seeds have sprouted. Don't get me wrong, I don't wish her ill, I just don't care that she's sick. tragic stupidity is sad sometimes. Well, the only thing that is sad (or tragic) is that a 24 year old girl, after only a couple years of (soso) fame almost drives herself to the grave! She could have a great life... but is too stupid to have it and fucks it all up! And yes, I also don't care... the bitch totally brought it on herself!

illness is illness. my grandmother died of emphysema. the cause of it might have been her own fault but she was still my grandmother and seeing her suffer was still painful to me. maybe we could all be a little less shallow about other people's suffering. Well, she's not my grandmother, I don't find that Winehouse likeable and I assume that this thing comes from her substance abuse... so I don't care! Sorry if that sounds cold or shallow!

By YOUR estimations of her situation Tupac and many other artist who are dead got what they deserved because of the life styles they not only lead, but ADVOCATED. and the 'sister comment' I have no idea what it is you are referring to.

Exactly. My mother is 76 years old and has COPD. I see her struggle to breathe every day and her disease is due to 40 years of smoking, yes, but still no person deserves to suffer the way she does. When she started smoking doctors were still endorsing it! Also, my sister died last year of a crack overdose. We tried all we could to get her into treatment and she just wouldn't do it. But, that doesn't mean she deserves to be spat upon. Amy Winehouse is someone's daughter and she has an incredible talent. I wish some folks around here could be more compassionate when it comes to others burdens. God forbid it affects you one day. Well, sorry about your mother and sister.... but geez... why should anyone feel sorry for them... they totally brought in on themselves... doctors are warning from the risks of smoking (whatever smoking), but these people all know it better or don't care and then we should feel sorry for them?? Hell no! If anything I feel sorry for the relatives, who have to suffer through seeing them suffer or losing people they love, but certainly not for the people who brought it on themselves! And yes, I totally agree with BlaqueKnight!

I feel sorry for someone like MJ as well although he is responsible for his life just like Amy is. Just saying . Well, a lot of his problems he did bring on himself.... and I don't feel that much sorry about those, but also many problems he didn't bring on himself and were created by his upbringing and other people including media and I feel sorry about those!

I would liken it to suddenly winning the lottery. Being young and impressionable, people at the age of 24 definitely do not have it together, most not even at 30. People crawling out the wood work trying to ride your coat tails, guilting you into giving them money and paying their way for everything. Parents that act like you owe them. I can see why she dont give a shit. The world is disgusting. Its hard to live/love your self when there is not one person you feel you can trust or reciprocates the fabled love. Especially being a young woman/girl who has likely been filled with the falsehood of romantic love.

I hope and pray for only the very best for her, but I don't see her surviving very much longer.
I think she will die of anorexia before any of the drugs get her. And as someone above me said, emphysema is irreversible. If she cannot quit smoking, gradually she will lose the ability to breath. That's how my mom died.

The reality of life is that you DON'T feel sorry for everyone all of the time. I don't feel sorry for singers and rappers who brag about selling drugs and get caught for drug possession. I don't feel sorry for singers who brag about substance abuse and then get sick or die from it. All of this "boo-hoo-hoo poor little Amy" crap is some BULL. She has always outwardly embraced her drug usage and her abuse of alcohol, in her music and in interviews. She had this coming. She was indirectly promoting this mentality and many on here embraced her perspectives as well. There are repercussions for every action and now she's getting hers. Let that be a lesson.

I hold whomever organized his birthday celebration accountable. I mean really do you think 90 year old Nelson is HUGE Amy Crackhouse fan???? IMO she should never have been invited to perform. But after that video of her singing the racist lil ditty or maybe the one with her sucking on a crack pipe came out they should have uninvited her.

Well, put me in the camp with the empathizers. Empathy means that if I were in the EXACT SAME SHOES (same personality, same insecurities, same addictions) as she, I *just might* be doing the same thing as she. I'm never quick to say what I would never do, and I certainly am not going to start judging people. That crap ALWAYS comes back to bite you in the azz.
I feel very sorry for her because her life is a living hell. No one deserves that, self-inflicted or not. Now, leave me and my hippie, we-are-the-world sentiments ALONE.

Why on Earth would she be "mortified" now???? She's been a public crackhead and heroin addict for years now. It's not like she's discreet. I think that viewpoint is odder than anything I've stated. She's a crackhead, she obviously doesn't give a shit about how that's perceived and people have been greatly "concerned" about her for years and it hasn't changed her behavior one bit. So again I ask, "What are you talking about?"

I still bad for her regardless of the racist statements. I actually feel sorry for people who have that type of mindset period. It must be awful to be so narrow minded and not be open to all the things that are different from them. And to be an addict on top of that is a whole nutha dimension of tunnel fucked-upness.
