I don't feel sorry for singers who brag about substance abuse and then get sick or die from it. All of this "boo-hoo-hoo poor little Amy" crap is some BULL. She has always outwardly embraced her drug usage and her abuse of alcohol, in her music and in interviews. She had this coming. She was indirectly promoting this mentality and many on here embraced her perspectives as well. There are repercussions for every action and now she's getting hers. Let that be a lesson.

illness is illness. my grandmother died of emphysema. the cause of it might have been her own fault but she was still my grandmother and seeing her suffer was still painful to me. maybe we could all be a little less shallow about other people's suffering. Exactly. My mother is 76 years old and has COPD. I see her struggle to breathe every day and her disease is due to 40 years of smoking, yes, but still no person deserves to suffer the way she does. When she started smoking doctors were still endorsing it! Also, my sister died last year of a crack overdose. We tried all we could to get her into treatment and she just wouldn't do it. But, that doesn't mean she deserves to be spat upon. Amy Winehouse is someone's daughter and she has an incredible talent. I wish some folks around here could be more compassionate when it comes to others burdens. God forbid it affects you one day.

Yes she did it to herself and now it's her responsibility to stop, but it's still sad that someone young & talented is still so empty that she has to do something as stupid as smoking crack. Exactly. I don't see her glamorizing crack, but pretty much being a walking warning sign. I just feel bad for people who destroy their lives, even if they have immature attitudes like her or Cobain, 2Pac, etc. [Edited 6/23/08 12:35pm] My Legacy

We all know that drugs and addiction can make a person do and say anything. I wish Amy good luck. I hope she recovers and can start making great music again. I love both of her cd's and it would be great to see her record and perform again without falling all over the stage and forgetting the lyrics. She's a wonderful talent and I hope she has many years ahead of her to show it to us.

Everybody knows the only reason marijuana isn't legal in the U.S. is because the government can't track and control it. This chick is on "other stuff(s)" and she admitted it in an interview before. I can't find it anymore but she's been very bold about her substance abuse; even to the point of writing songs about it. Live by the pipe; die by the pipe.

Gangs, Prison, Guns, and Death are all thing that come to mind surrounding this drug. Certainly persons have been effected negatively, both those imitating these ideas and concepts and the by standers.

i know it's corny, and i see where some of you are coming from, but i think it's ok to feel compassion for ANYBODY - celebrity, homeless crackhead on the street - whatever. ANYBODY suffering that much, period, i think it's cool to feel something for them, at least wish them well. I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

Let's put this in context. I feel bad for any human suffering.
But do I feel as bad for Amy as I do for a child who gets molested or gets cancer or is starving to death? definitely not. I feel bad for Mike Tyson & Michael Jackson, too, but not that bad! My Legacy

Sure, but crack-addicts (or any drug) also have the tendency for not thinking straight, does this mean we just have to let them die in the gutter and just not care??? I bet you would think different if little Amy was your sister.....or maybe not, seeing how her bystanders (including the record-industry!) fail to take action! It's Kurt Cobain all over again! I do feel sorry for her having the parents that she has, though. Mitch seems intent on becoming a minor celebrity through her, and her mother seems very dispassionate when talking about her daughter.

I'm a fan of Amy's but i don't feel sorry for her - shes hugely popular, wealthy and talented....
she's had so many chances to sort herself out, yet she's throwing her life away. She's obviously not a strong person, she seems to lean to drugs or alcohol when she's got a trivial boyfriend problem. Get a grip bitch! it's so ironic her first single had the lyrics : "He said 'the respect I made you earn, thought you had so many lessons to learn / I said 'you don't know what love is get a grip'
