Everybody loves Smokey. "The Tears of a Clown" is my favorite. Stevie + Smokey = "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

"Tears of a Clown" is the only song by Smokey that I ever really, really liked. I know he's got a ton of hits, and was a major player in the whole Motown game, but very generally speaking; was never a Smokey fan. In fact; I know it's sacrilege, but I always found him kinda boring. I can't turn the radio off fast enough when I hear "Being With You", lol (although that song does drum up a certain nostalgia). But I acknowledge his skills as an artist/songwriter.

I feel you on that, I loved him as a songwriter for other acts and have a general wholeheartedness for his early Miracles tunes (1960-1965). Other than that, a few solo joints ("Baby Come Close", "Cruisin'"), but that's about it. Speaking of, I still feel the MIRACLES should've been inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame while Smokey would be inducted in the non-performing category.
