Left me kind of . The songs that were on were really on, though. Push had me all , and Hot Hot Hot was cool, Love Song was good too. but for the most part Porls guitar tone was killing me(in a bad way) too shrilly/wanna be rock Goddy. Maybe it sounded better in person, and I'm sure they pulled out the goodies for the rest of the show that wasnt televised.

we DVR'ed it but i haven't watched it yet. i love the cure but i'm not really excited by them anymore. i'm way way WAY geeked for the extended "disintegration" reissue to come out. after that, i think i pretty much will have everything i need by the cure. i'm happy they're still recording and playing, but their new music doesn't do a whole lot for me. to those who still dig it, i say right on - i hope the cure stays successful. i'm just not feeling it anymore.

I hear ya. Watching it was nostolgic for me( especially Push). Im glad they're still around, and, judging from the size of the crowd at Madison Square Garden, still successful. I just need to pick up pristine re-mastered copies of: The HEad on the Door 17 Seconds Japanese Whispers(has this been re-mastered?) Disentegration and I'm good to go. A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

That cassette is gold! Of course mine has been misplaced for years, but I remember its greatness. I do have Staring..on cd, and the sound quality is suprisingly good. A remaster would be nice, but the music jumps out of the speakers on the as-is version. A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

apparently they perform songs with musical instruments in front of an audience! hmm. i thought there might've been a slight chance they were airing the cure for a specific disease or problem. nevermind.

Sextonseven.....? [Edited 6/23/08 6:21am] From my concert blog: The Cure have been around for what seems like forever. And give frontman Robert Smith credit for not altering his look and the band's sound too drastically over the years. As was evidenced by the sold out crowd, what wasn't broke apparently doesn't need fixing. The band played behind four vertical banners that reflected images relating to whatever song was being played, whether it be album art and or new inspired visuals. The setlist was mostly hits with a few odd album cuts thrown in for the hardcore fans, the oddest of them all being "Grinding Halt" in the third encore from their debut nearly 30 years ago. One major change in this tour from others is that this was the first time I've ever heard the Cure perform in the last few decades as strictly a guitar band. No keyboards and faux horns to flesh out their hits, all were played entirely as a four piece with Robert and Porl Thompson on guitars and Simon on bass. Some songs that relied heavily on keyboards admittedly sounded a little awkward without them like "Lullaby" and "The Walk" which had the keyboard lines played as best as could be on guitar. Robert only dropped the guitar during the second encore, letting Porl handle each song with minimal treatment. But without the faux horns on "Why Can't I Be You", the song was reduced to just a persistent groove and not very effective. Other than that the band sounded fine and they had better since seeing the band play live is not the most exciting event in the world at all. Perhaps that's why Robert still stubbornly sticks to wearing his crude makeup and rat's nest hair. Without those, what is there to stare at?
Setlist: Underneath The Stars Prayers For Rain A Night Like This The End Of The World Lovesong To Wish Impossible Things Pictures Of You Lullaby Fascination Street From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea The Perfect Boy Hot Hot Hot!!! The Only One Wrong Number The Walk Sleep When I'm Dead Push Friday I'm In Love Inbetween Days Just Like Heaven Primary Shake Dog Shake Charlotte Sometimes One Hundred Years Baby Rag Dog Book Encore one: If Only Tonight We Could Sleep... The Kiss Encore two: Freakshow Close To Me Why Can't I Be You? Encore three: Boys Don't Cry Jumping Someone Else's Train Grinding Halt 10:15 Saturday Night Killing An Arab 175 minutes

When the band went right into "Grinding Halt" from "Jumping Someone Else's Train", my friend and I looked at each other like this: It was only my third Cure show, but my friend used to follow them on tour so who knows how many times she's seen them perform and she said it was the very first time she's ever heard "Grinding Halt" live. How much of the show was broadcast?

I thought the band overall sounded very good live. The only part I didn't like was when they tried to replicate the synth lines with guitar like I had mentioned before. Porl looks like one hot mess now. At times when he was hunched over playing, he reminded me of Max Schreck in Nosferatu: spelling [Edited 7/1/08 13:32pm]
