By god, KISS was the GREATEST rock band in history!!!

INTRO: Kiss was my favorite band when I was a kid... I had everything I could find from or about Kiss... I rocked with Kiss until they ousted Peter Criss... you cannot be Kiss without Gene, Paul, Ace and Peter...

NOW THE POINT: I have been rocking out to Kiss for the last couple of hours and I have to say that they are absolutely the greatest rock band ever... they rocked the fucking house!

Damn it, that was the best fucking rock ever!

My absolute favorite is the Gene Simmons album. The beginning used to scare the shit out of me. I also had the 3d viewax thingys (whatever they were called, the circles with pictures on them that went into that red viewer thing that looked like binoculars) with Gene Simmons and his bloody guitar. It rocked!

ah-ha!! the beginning of the gene simmons album used to TERRIFY me as a child. but then we all headbanged when "radioactive" kicked in... oh yeah, those were some good times. smile

i used to have all of the memorabilia from that time... 3 out of the 4 kiss dolls, the comic book, the tattoos included with ALIVE II... all that craziness. when i moved out, my parents threw all that stuff away. great huh? sad

$.02.

Kiss were the first band I got into as a kid. Now that was what rock 'n' roll was all about, larger than life, big heels, big hair, big attitude!

I bought all the CD re-issues a year or two ago, even though I've got all their albums on vinyl. That brought back memories. Destroyer is a classic! I loved that whole intro bit that crashes into Detroit Rock City.

And yes, I did go and see 'em on the farewell tour.
That stage! Those costumes! The Make Up! The Pyrotechnics!

Think I'll go and slap Alive! in the CD player for a bit.
You wanted the best!
You got the best!
The hottest band in the land...
KISS!!!

Yes indeed! I especially loved Destroyer as a child...but man...wtf happened to them? Half the band leaves and their was seriously affected!

Opinions on Carnival of Souls? I didn't think it sounded much like the classic KISS, given that it's a reunion-type album...

Beth is my favorite by them... I love this song and such a beautiful one. Damn I am gonna go listen to it now.

Beth, I hear you callin'
But I can't come home right now
Me and the boys are playin'
And we just can't find the sound

Just a few more hours
And I'll be right home to you
I think I hear them callin'
Oh, Beth what can I do
Beth what can I do

You say you feel so empty
That our house just ain't a home
And I'm always somewhere else
And you're always there alone

Just a few more hours
And I'll be right home to you
I think I hear them callin'
Oh, Beth what can I do
Beth what can I do

Beth, I know you're lonely
And I hope you'll be alright
'Cause me and the boys will be playin'
All night

ROOOCK AND ROOOLLL

Even in their zimmerframes they kick gluteus!

Gene is the man, saw them live in 97 though and that came very close to ruining my childhood!

They gonna do a concert with an Australian Symphonic Orchestra in a couple of months
I feel pretty, that's enough

You'll find that psycho circus is a reunion type album (peter and ace played on a couple of songs)
Carnival of Souls was their last with Bruce and Eric.

My opinion on Psycho Circus:

doesn't cut the mustard they made too much of an effort to sound vintage.

It's like trying to rewrite R&R all nite and Shout it out Loud ten times over. Paul can't write a melody to save his life and Gene isn't as convincing either. There are some serious doubts on whether Pete drummed on more than two or three songs and Bruce Kulicks involvement in 'pre' production does sound as if his fingers are all over the tunes.

It didn't suck as much as i feared though..

Kiss ROCKED... no doubt about it.

Am I the only one who thought Kiss was NOT Kiss after Peter Criss left?

Kiss was not Kiss again until all the original members got back together.

You really know your rock... how old are you, 18?

Were you around to hear Kiss in the context of their time so that you can judge them properly? I am not talking about in the time of shitheads like Poison, I am talking about in the seventies when they were really Kiss and not that crap that came later.

In order to judge them, you have to compare them to what was going on at the time and they were clearly the greatest thing to happen at that time.

yeah, i understand getting into a certain vibe on a visceral level. from most of your posts i think you have extremely good musical tastes, so i for give you the kiss thing. besides, i have certain "guilty pleasures" that i love, but, when push comes to shove, i know they suck.

and, to put my walking out of the kiss concert in better perspective, i was definitely a pretty pretentious 18 year old at that point in terms of musical tastes (probably still am to a certain degree).

and, i went to the concert reluctantly at the bequest of a certain young lady with whom i was not particularly getting along with well at the time.

the concert was at atlanta stadium.
the bands:
38 special
bob segar and the silver bullit band
jonny and edgar winter
blue oyster cult
kiss

i think there somebody else on the ticket also, but i forget.

yeah, but i sat through 38 special, bob segar, johnny and edgar winter and blue oyster cult. i walked out 25 minutes into kiss, and sat in my car in the parking lot until the rest of my party came out, maybe an hour later.

that day will live on as pure unadulterated hell. although, sex in a puptent in the outfield of atlanta fulton county stadium was kind of nice.

to top it off, i had taken my mom's car to the show because mine was in the shop, and "someone" left a bag of pot in the back seat that my mom found the next morning. not a good day, that was.

KISS and ALICE COOPER
pretty much wrote the blueprint for
Heavy Metal. Their influence is far
more far reaching than it may first
appear.

KISS were real music fans. They did
what they did because that's what
they wanted to see as fans themselves.
They pretty much invented the 'stadium
concert' as we know it.

i have to take exception here a little.

the blueprints for heavy metal were written long before kiss was on the scene. bands like black sabbath and others were responsible for the evolution of heavy metal.

and, led zeppelin under the management of peter grant invented the stadium show as we know it. peter grant pushed for larger and larger venues and bigger and bigger payrolls for zeppelin, which pushed them into large arenas and stadiums.

however, kiss and alice cooper, along with david bowie, were responsible for writing the blueprints for rock and roll theatrics as we know them today.

I remember the late 70's. AC/DC, VanHalen, Aerosmith, the aging Stones, and many others made Kiss seem a little childish, don't you think? I vividly remember music critics lambasting them for their limited musical skills.

Well, maybe not the greatest ever. But they do rank high on my list as well. And even though I like some of the other songs without them, Kiss just isn't Kiss without Peter, Gene, Ace, and Paul!!!
