DJs and Computer Geeks: What is some good computer software for mixing?

I bought a new cheap computer last month. I have now completed scanning all my good songs into the computer. I've been loving listening to the music with the shuffle feature but now I am the type that gets bored simply listening to music and love to create. I'm ready to start mixing.

Anyway, what is some good computer software for mixing for around $30 or $40. A few years ago, I borrowed several discs from a friend (who is now deceased) and couldn't figure any of it out. It looked more like a life support system graph than a mixing program. I'm not a computer geek, I'm a computer idiot so I need something simple to figure out. lol

I don't have the internet so don't give me any suggestions on something to download. I'm looking for some software to purchase for around $30 to $40. I have Windows Vista. Any suggestions?

I used Creative Wave Studio...you can edit mix and all that on it.....took me a good year to get it right though.

Exactly. Beatmixing, blending, and crossfading.

I saw Mix Meister's website and it looked pretty simple as far as the online demonstration went. I hope it really is that simple. lol

I noticed it will match BPMs and bring them to the same speed. Will it bring the beats from the two songs together and keep them from getting away from each other before ending the crossfade or will I have to manually keep the beats from straying?

Well I didnt start mixing with it until 2 years ago...I originally used it for my own music. Its very easy working with wave files, chopping and editing

I think Mix Meister is too expensive for his budget.

You basically set up the crossfade so it will stay in time for as long as it's going. Are you looking to do "live" mixing or mixing to make mixes? Mixmeister, as far as I know, isn't the greatest for live mixing it's best for creating dj mixes and mashups that you listen to at a later time. It's very flexible and takes some time to get used to. The programs that are good for live mixing, are very very CPU intensive and require an external sound card.

Is mixing by using wave flies editing and chopping while using the record player real mixing or is that cheating?

What's "Cheating" these days? I think that as technology gets better and dj's have more tools to work with it only makes the sound better. Also the tools they are developing are taking music and mixing to new levels. It's all perspective.

I make music using a computer...is that cheating? Is it cheating if I am not doing so with live instruments or keyboards? I say if the music sounds good who cares how it's done or with what software.

When you buy a mix CD at the store, do you really think it's done live and recorded? Most likely they are using software to perfect the mixes. Same with Bootlegs/Mashups...I KNOW that only done using a computer.

I'm not looking to do anything live. I don't mix professionally, just for fun in my spare time. Mainly to entertain myself. I'm just looking for something basic to play with and make mixes to record onto CD to listen to at a later time. I also like to play my re-recorded mixes at parties or even make copies for my friends. Even if the program isn't capable of burning CDs, that's fine because my computer is hooked to my stereo which has a CD burner and I record on it just like it was a cassette recorder.

Mix Meister sounds right up my alley. I'm thinking about spending a few more dollars and getting it.

Remember my Rick James mix I made you a copy of. I did that straight from two CD players with pitch control and a mixer. With a computer program, I'm looking to do more of the same, just more advanced such as extending the intros and breakdowns so I can overlap the two songs for an even more extended time. The moment when both songs are playing at the same time and sound really good together is like an orgasm to my ears. I'm just trying to get a more intense orgasm. lol
