N.E.R.D. CD Review - Seeing Sounds

as reported on my blog...
I've been anxiously awaiting this new release Seeing Sounds to see if they finally got it all right. Well, not exactly.

Everyone Nose- To start off the released a song that is not the best song to choose as a single - a jab at club girls and their need to use drugs to get off. Now I'm all for anti-drug songs but this one is just so-so.

Windows - They kick off the next song with a cool beat and hook. These guys excel in hooks thus the success with other artists. Man, Pharrell really should produce Prince because a) he wants to be him vocally i.e the scream on this songs chorus - I like it!! wink b) Prince and Pharrell would be deadly! An ok song

Anti-Matter - This one I bet will get play since its got a female guest vocal that is hook-a-licous and a "whattttt" Lil Jon stolen phrase...but its just a'ight

Spaz - Now this is what I'm talking 'bout! Loved this in the Zune commercial and didn't even realize it was a new one from these guys. Cool ass nuvo-beat spastic (thus the title) that is pure funk original with Pharrell chanting "I'm right here I'm not going anywhere" before breaking it down into a cool downtempo chillfest - wish they would have kept going but great song

Yeah You - The cool ass vibe continues with one of my first favs. This song has a bad-ass clap beat and a "bet you heard wanna know what I'm talking bout...YOU!" Love it

Sooner or Later - The Beatles anyone?? a good song that is steeped in a lazy beat about lost love. Plus a Prince like cameo guitar solo at the end..quite nice copy really wink

Happy - A pick me up that I think they do quite nicely all the time - a great 70's hook "Im good Im good" - quite nice

Kill Joy - Think the boys got in line with all the girls in the bathroom with this Chili Pepper song that harkens back to Blondie. A lame chorus and song

Love Bomb - Ballad time that just needs a real singer - weak

You Know What - Back on track with a catchy guitar driven hook and nice lyrics and a real grower - the chorus is great and the flow is fun on this one - recommended top down summer song

Laugh About - A reckless double beat and a song about a one time hook up thats somewhat interesting

Lazer Gun Carrying - A bonus track that is a great closer that finds them getting deep looking at todays world and wishing for the past "don't you miss the fucking classics like Purple Rain" (niiiice)

7 outta 10

The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Remember there is only one destination and that place is U
All of it. Everything. Is U.

Overall, an OK album for me, my fave trax are :

Anti-Matter

Sooner or Later

Spaz

Spaz is the next single, rightfully so.

A LOT of Prince influence on this record.

it's not piracy! it's called "underground support" lol

I'm buying it on friday because although I have it online, I want a physical copy. All because I'm a Neptunes fanatic lol
