hmph! Shout all you want, but I still disagree. lol

I agree with u on that Alex. Marvin sings with much more conviction than Luther did on this song. Luther's is good, but doesn't compare to Marvin's. It's almost like they are 2 diffrent songs.

Luther's was cool but Marvin's made you wanna fuck. Especially after Tammi comes in slyly. batting eyes

I just heard another cover that fits into this category...

I think Luther's version of "Since I Lost My Baby" is better than the original (by a slim margin). I love the Tempts, but Luther made that one his own for sure. I think its the vocal delivery and arrangement that makes me like it better.

Agreed smile But I don't care what anybody says Bobby Brown's My Perogative is the original and best version.

thinks.....The only one that springs to mind is Cash's take on NIN's Hurt.

I like plenty of covers. Love some of them, even. But that's the only one that comes to mind as superior.

Same with "Fun Time" - I like Peter Murphy's version, but it's just not as good as Iggy's.

it's on his "cheapness and beauty" album. it really doesn't sound a lot like boy george - very crunchy and glam. but it's a great cover!

oh, and i'm gonna get murderfied again by all the R&B heads for this, but...

rita coolidge's version of "(your love has lifted me) higher and higher" gives me GOOSEBUMPS. i love that version like crazy. now, understand: i love EVERY version of this song, from the original to the steve winwood (spencer davis group?) version, but i love love LOVE rita c's version for some reason. i'm sure it's all subjective and it reminds me of childhood. but what can i tell ya. lol

She sings it well, but I don't like the slowed-down tempo.

I do like Jett's "I Love Rock and Roll" better, and probably like "Crimson and Clover" equally. Don't really have an opinion about "Love Hurts" and "Everyday People" either way, but her "Roadrunner" was pretty bad.

i know what you mean, because it's such a charismatic melody, but i think the mid-tempo-ness of it suits her voice perfectly. it has that whole sultry 70s earthy-sexy vibe going. love

Her version is gorgeous! I have been listening to it a lot lately. It's been in my head, because they used it in the promo spots for Swingtown. She has a beautiful voice and she actually sang the original version of Superstar, too.

lol We're All Alone. And you won't get murderfied by me - I think she's neato. Plus she was married to Kris Kristofferson when he was hot, before he started looking like he shoots holes in coffee cans with his pistol.

I don't like the unplugged version at all. It takes the scream of the song and knocks it down to a pathetic whimper.

Of course, I'm not big on Clapton in the first place aside from that song, so my opinion should probably be disregarded. smile

joan's version is pretty fierce. is it better than the original? i dunno. i think she does her own thing with it, so it's kinda apples and oranges.

Just for fun, I went through this thread and counted the number I could co-sign. I'm a little amazed I got up to 15; I figured it be much lower than that. Anyway, I forgot to mention "All Through the Night" by Cyndi Lauper.
