pjh1972 said: Can someone tell me why torrent files are so massive ? I'm a 'newbie' at this and I don't understand why people would want to download a torrent that's 300MB when an album of MP3s is usually around 75MB.
I don't know why they're so big but people download them because it's hard to find whole albums any other way, you can find singles easy enough but if you want track 12 of some random album, you need to download the whole thing as a torrent.

FLAC does not suck
The Lossless Format is the best for audio playback and is the clone rip from CD. Types of Lossless formats are WAV Lossless WMA APE FLAC Apple Lossless SHN and each of them above is ideal for CD burning… the results are fantastic. WAV is the full uncompressed format and others like LWMA, APE, FLAC, AL and SHN are the zip compression (like Win Zip and Win RAR). Zip Compressions are in smaller sizes to help files to be downloaded from the net in quicker time and speed. MP3 loses quality sound from 60% to 90%... depending on the bit-rate (128 to 320). The downside to this is… the burned CD from MP3 is terrible and very noticeable… the sound is off and worse, is the gaps in between tracks during the continuous sequences like live recordings. There is no such thing as burning software to remove gaps automatically and I am not talking about DAO. Amazes me anyone who won't spend 2 to 3 (or less) hours downloading a FLAC set but spends that same amount of time... converting MP3 to WAV and eliminate the gaps with a WAV Editor. Lossless does not create gaps during the CD rips. MP3 is useful for portable listening like MP3 Players and that's all it is good for. There are some audio players than can handle APE and FLAC too. Lossless Rules!!!!! L4OATheOriginal said: torrents and FLAC suck!!

It's a matter of being able to hear the difference or not. Or caring about quality or not. I listen to MP3s and don't care much, but if I had a good system, I'd listen to wav.

To me you can tell the difference, in a flac file if its a good quality recording you can hear the air being vibrated from the instrument/vocal cords. And hearing that air being vibrated is what music is all about, its where the soul is.
