Torrents,,,,

I'm not asking for a moral/ethics lesson here, I'm just worried about getting virus' and stuff. Is a site like piratebay high risk???
Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

i think they weed the shit out. If people are downloading something it pretty much gets reported right away. Just check the comments on an item before downloading.

yeah it can depend on what sites you use. Some require you to be a member and the only way to get in is through other people from the site letting you in. Those ones are very reliable....the trouble is getting in sad

but ones like pirate bay aren't too bad, as Horatio said just read the comments

Not really.

Download azureus and then use www.torrentz.com for finding what you want, you should be fine.

Just stay away from limewire, FULL of viruses.

Yup, Limewire has the worst reputation on the net, only newbies download it biggrin

To use torrentz, you have to go here :

http://azureus.sourceforge.net/

Download that program.

Then go to www.torrentz.com, type in whatever you want to download (music, tv, movies, video games, anything!) and a list will come up of different torrent sites that have that uploaded.

Choose one, any one and it will take you to that torrent website. Click "download this torrent" or "download" or whatever it says and a pop up will come up asking what to download it with, choose azureus and it will begin downloading through that program wink

Once it's finished, when you first downloaded azureus it automatically made a folder in My Documents called Azureus Downloads. Your torrent will be in there wink

Just a reminder, I don't know how much experience you've had with torrents, but the bigger the file, the longer it'll take to download. A TV episode can take about an hour or so, a music album about 30 minutes, a movie about a few hours at least so make sure you have lots of spare time to wait. And enough memory/hard drive on your computer. Good luck!

Can someone tell me why torrent files are so massive ? I'm a 'newbie' at this and I don't understand why people would want to download a torrent that's 300MB when an album of MP3s is usually around 75MB.

And remember to keep your ratios up around at least .25 . The trick is to seed at least 50% of what you download.

My guess is people prefer lossless files(flac,SHNs) to MP3s due to the quality of the uncompressed files shrug. Plus , certain sites, at least most of the more reputable ones will not allow lossy files such as MP3s to be downloaded or uploaded anyways.

Because a lot of people out there don't care to compress the original audio down so much (sound quality). The files you're seeing are probably FLAC or MPC or something of the sort. You typically have to uncompress those files once you've downloaded (at least I do on my Mac). It basically comes down to what kind of quality the poster prefers. I find it puzzling when anyone wants to rip or download anything below below 192 kbps in MP3 format. I'll tolerate 192, but the quality is much better at 224, 256 and above. That being said, when I can find out-of-print stuff ripped from CD at any quality, I'll definitely take it.

No , you can play FLAC files in Winamp and you can also get a plugin for WMP
and you can burn them in Nero using a plugin too

However , you could convert them to wav. too and then burn them (lossless too)
