I never supported R. Kelly. He was a proven pedophile in the 90's. Prince lost my support a while ago

They're specifically taking about the assholes that threatened them and stopped supporting them after the bush comment. If you were that kind of fan, fuck off. I completely agree with the chicks

I can relate; who'd want to be associated with Toby Keith and his ilk anyway?

And to answer the question, I didn't buy Janet's latest. After All For You sucked, Damita was a brief reprieve, and 20 YO was unspeakably vile, I made myself download Discipline first. Thank God; I would've wasted $10 on that.

Prince is another one; if I'm truthful, I haven't really liked an album of his since Gold Experience. I bought everything up to (and including) 3121, but after that was played all of 5 times, I realized that I'm completely "over" new Prince. No thanks.

If Accelerate doesn't grow on me, I'll probably be done with REM too. It's been a case of diminishing returns since 1998; I'm gonna give it another chance or two first, though.

"When I looked out in the audience, I didn't see rednecks," she said. (Did her lip curl slightly as she pronounced the r-word?) "I saw a more progressive crowd."

didn't want to go look up the exact quotes so I paraphrased... I'll post the one where they said they didn't really like country music except their own attempts at it, when i come across it again.

They're specifically taking about the assholes that threatened them and stopped supporting them after the bush comment. If you were that kind of fan, fuck off. I completely agree with the chicks

On "60 Minutes" Ms. Maguire told Steve Kroft that their concerts weren't typical country concerts. "When I looked out in the audience, I didn't see rednecks," she said. (Did her lip curl slightly as she pronounced the r-word?) "I saw a more progressive crowd."

--> so only rednecks (whatever negative connotation she uses it with) like 'typical' country music... but she and her 'true' fans are more sophisticated than that. she wasn't talking about the two idiots that threathened her, she was talking about country music fans general.

and as the stopped supporting her crap: you have a right to free speech. You're free to yell 'fire' in a crowded theater. You're free to yell 'hijack' on an airplane... but free speech has consequences. there's nothing wrong with not buying someone's cd because 20$ is too much to pay for political propaganda you disagree with.

she was ashamed of bush, not because of his politics, not because of the war, not because of his actions... but because he was from texas. If you can't stand people being offended by what you say. Stop trying so hard to offend them! The bush quote didn't offend me personally, but here delusion that 'not agreeing with her' makes you an unsophisticated redneck', her persistent attempts to offend her fans and insult her collegues did!

Fishbone.

I used to be a big Fishbone fan in college until they started putting homophobic references in several of their songs. I'm not gonna spend money to have some idiots call me a fag on CD over and over. No band is THAT good. hmph!

I will admit that I still love the Truth & Soul album, but I sold all but one of my CDs by them and to be honest, I never listen to it anymore.

It's a shame because otherwise, I thought they were a really cool band. I just can't get past the homophobia.

thumbs up!

I stopped supporting Janet Jackson beginning with "That's The Way Love Goes". Midtempo stuff with a weak shit hop sounding drum machine had just begun to dominate the R&B airwaves. There was a lot of hype surrounding her new album at the time and I remember saying that all we needed was someone as huge as she was to come back strong with some funk like she had just experienced a huge success with on the "Rhythm Nation" album about two years ealier. An album of hard jams like that by someone as huge as she was at the time could have knocked midtempo shit hop back into the gutter where it belonged. However, when I heard the first single, "That's The Way Love Goes", she wasn't trying to beat the shit hoppers, instead, she joined them and helped the problem grow even further. I never spent one dime on her after that.

Morrissey: Liked him in my teens and early twenties, but came to realize that his music glorified depression and that he was entirely full of shit. Was pleasantly surprised by "That's How People Grow Up", but otherwise can't stand the guy.

Springsteen: Haven't stopped supporting him, but Magic was the first release of his that I didn't buy. Too many cryptic lyrics and I hate Brendan O'Brien.

Tom Waits: Was a hardcore fan until he asked the musical question, "Why are we arming the Israeli army?". Gee, Tom - could it have anything to do with the fact that the country's constantly under siege just for existing and that this includes terrorist attacks against civilians? Kiss my ass, dude.

Hmmm. I am also pretty picky when it comes to music and I download before trying anything new a lot of the time, so right now I can't really say.

Maaaybe Mariah and Janet since I haven't purchased any of their new stuff, but they are still "all right", or maybe I just don't care and have moved on without a thought. They aren't in my circle of great artists (never really were) so I guess they can't be dismissed if they were never "in".

Same goes with R.Kelly (peddy) and Madonna (only liked two of her songs, never liked her classless talentless...self). But someone else said it well when they said that it's not about their personal life (otherwise tons of folks including Prince would be out the window) but it's about their musical output, and Prince is kinda approaching that window lol
MJ is "all right" as well, never really supported him, so again there's nothing to drop.

That pretty much sums it up for me why I stopped supporting Prince. I don't want to support the JWs with my money as I don't agree with them and I don't want to support him either as IMO he doesn't respect his fans and only cares about the money instead of his music.

Wow, that's your top reason for not supporing Prince (for something you assume he's doing?). Well, to each his own biggrin

Well I hope you aren't supporting Michael cuz apparently he has been sending hefty checks to the WS that they are sending right back to him. I would send it back too lol Any other religion/organization would take his money in a quickness.

It's a combination of both, the man and how he treats his fans and people in general and the JWs. No, I am not supporting MJ lol. I have some of his records, but he never was an artist I was a fan of and the one of his concerts I have been to was a total waste of time IMO. But I must confess I am still supporting Beck although he is in Scientology. Partly because I really enjoy his music contrary to Prince's music of the last years. Partly because if he isn't respecting his fans I don't know it.
With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Yeah I was a bit iffy about Beck when I heard the Scientology stuff. But as long as he doesn't preach it in his albums I'm happy.

I'm pretty put off with Midnight Oil now days, mainly due to the fact that Peter Garrat is doing stuff against what he preached in his songs sad
