Have u ever stopped supporting a singer?

Have you? I have never done this because I usually feel that the person innocent until proven guilty, but if they are proven innocent, I usually continue to support them.

With the recent verdict in the R. Kelly trial, it's making me reconsider. I have supported this man's music since his career started. Now, I'm not so sure. I just don't think I can purchase another R. Kelly single/album/cd again. Not because I think he's guilty, but because it makes me wonder if he's fantasizing about a child or if he based it on a true experience with someone underage.

To top it all off, I read his new album was going to be another 12 Play!

Yes, I used to be a really big fan of Nero Bellum from Psyclon 9 until I realized how much chaos his music was bringing into my life...had to let it go, he's a very negative person but I admire his art and open mindedness...but he can be a dick to his fans too so no thnx

I stopped supporting Mariah around the time of Charmbracelet. I don't even remember no shit from that era except a Mad TV skit called "Not Insane".

Yes. I was turned off by R. Kelly by the Jay-Z tour and well, of course that "Trapped in the Closet" nonsense made me be like "this fool"... lol

Listen to it, the proof is in the "shit".

It's not a great album at all.

I'm a pretty loyal fan...through the good and bad shit. The artist has to really piss me off (and I take it personally) for me not to support them. Like with R, I'm just sick of his BS. I think what really triggered it was listening to George Daniels talk about how he messed with his daughter (and she had grown up knowing him on a personal level).

Here is the interview:

What do you mean by support? I'll still listen to my Amy Winehouse and Michael Jackson albums despite the stupid things they've said. But my opinion of them as people has gone way downhill.

Im guessing by "support" you are meaning going to shows, buying their new albums. I really havent tossed anyone aside like that mainly because i try to avoid people that come out today and everyone is on them like they are the greatest thing ever and then they are gone, no longevity, no catalog of work to base anything on. So there isnt anyone like that, but i would say Mariah and Janet are nearing it with me. Mariah just has gotten so "tired" with these albums and singles being nothing more than a checklist of hot producers and big duets for this month, plus her sex appeal has drpped a million %% with this record, her recent weight loss is way too much. As for Janet really the same thing, but Janet just really fell into this trap where she pushed aside "pop" in favor of this new breed rythym pop, and her singing has sounded like she isnt really even interested in doing the records, almost like she knows.

Its not personal to me, because I can't control their behaviour and I don't know what are they doing behind closed doors.

Had it been personal, I would've stopped supporting Miles Davis, Marvin Gaye, Jimi, Prince(actually I stopped supporting him), James Brown and Aretha Franklin. Each of those artists represent the epitome of an asshole. It doesn't bother me becuase their music is good.

No, its about when the artist start doing stuff that beneath his talent,,,like what Mariah is doing right now. She's fuckin' with fluff that is waaaaay below her belt musically.

As for Prince, the latest bullshit he pulled in here,,,,,I didn't buy his new album or even download it. I can't put money in his pocket knowing that he despise his own fanbase who practically stuffed his mouth when everybody in the music biz forgot about him.

It depends, there are people who just talk shit that i cant give two shits about, Justin,Kanye,Timbo etc...

As for the Mariah thing, people get all upset with me and say "how can call yourself a fan when you put her down", and the thing is i have been into Mariah longer than people who jumped on the wagon when MIMI came out. I was into Mariah from before day one when i got a 4 track cassette single promo that had only a name, no picture, no LEGS, no praise like they give every artist before they even put out something. So everything i say about Mariah is where i would like to see her go, or even just "dabble" in.

Agreed. Usually their music turns me off. "Trapped in the Closet" and that whole "Reloaded" bullshit and the Jay-Z collaborations turned me off to R. Kelly. Like R. Kelly shouldn't try to be T-Pain. Mariah shouldn't try to sex up all the time, neither should Janet, and Prince should learn about the internet being his friend rather than his enemy because of some harmless videos.

Usher really turned me off when he did that shit too. Why when a lot of the R&B dudes come out with solid shit and then come out with shitty albums every time, I can't support 'em anymore.

I love Mary, so much.

She's the REAL disciple of Billie Holiday, had Billie turned her life around. Both women showed their selves in their music.

But lately, her music has been putting me to sleep.

Fine sounds like a long commercial for GAP products.

Fishbone.

I used to be a big Fishbone fan in college until they started putting homophobic references in several of their songs. I'm not gonna spend money to have some idiots call me a fag on CD over and over. No band is THAT good. hmph!

I will admit that I still love the Truth & Soul album, but I sold all but one of my CDs by them and to be honest, I never listen to it anymore.

It's a shame because otherwise, I thought they were a really cool band. I just can't get past the homophobia.

yeah, check out the "me gay? no way!" song on their "reality of my surroundings" album. if their "heterosexual celebration" song doesn't completely puke you out, there's more where that came from on their next album. screw them.
