Amerie Signs To Def Jam, Will Maybe Get To Release An Album Amerie Signs To Def Jam, Will Maybe Get To Release An Album
Amerie is set to undergo a career overhaul - after inking a deal with Def Jam. The singer, who parted ways with Columbia Records earlier this year, released two albums to moderate success. She is hoping the new contract with Def Jam will help boost her career to even greater heights. Rebounding from rumors of being dropped by Columbia after the blog love for her last album, Because I Love It, failed to inspire the label to release it Stateside, Amerie has signed to Def Jam and is already hard at work on her first album for the label, Ironically, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony finally releases Because I Love It (at least on iTunes) if Def Jam succeeds in making Amerie an across-the-board. After all, it's bound to be referenced in every article. Despite being glad that she's going to be able to move on with her career, there's still part of me that's disappointed that "Crush" never got a chance to reach audiences here. As enjoyable as the singles "Take Control" and "Gotta Work" were, I think this homage to the days of Rhythm Nations and synth-orhcestra stabs would have sounded great coming out of car radios last summer (or even this one).

Amerie releasing an album stateside. Imagine that. Is DefJam any better in the long run? Well another "Knowles" is ripping her off big time. Just saw this Solange Knowles video which is ALL amerie and the sound she was doing in the UK, TOTAL RIPOFFS. I see it runs in that family. As long as AMERIE keeps the style that she has been showing, to me she is one of the last that can be "Sexy" without trying at all. She has that classic 70's sex appeal going, and its not a fake one, im just hoping def jam keeps and lets her do her thing, and doesnt push her into bullshit songs with Tpain and Young Jeezy "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

If they are going to let Amerie keep her style, keep the feel that she had going with "because i Love it" and just GET BEHIND that as a label and push the envelope and the product than its a good thing "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

ty [Edited 6/14/08 16:44pm] [Edited 6/14/08 16:44pm] Amerie as always looks perfect! Mya broke her foot doing rehearsels for her run on broadway in CHICAGO so Amerie a good friend is stepping in for her on this show "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Wow, just because of this description, I downloaded "Crush", and I LOVE IT. Thanks. This'll sound great coming out of my car stereo this summer, at least. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

The whole album is just a great piece of work and something that MAINSTREAM RB needed to change the current scene, but the powers that be and certain "haters" kept this cd from seeing the light of day in America, but as Amerie said, "my fans bought the import, so right there i know someone likes me" "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

She is certainly not the first, last, or only artist to go into the 60/70s era (which is what Solange is doing). Stop blaming stuff on Beyonce & co., other female artists have been able to attain some level of success. Amerie hasn't because she sucks and that's the consensus. love is a fate resigned memories mar my mind love it is a fate resigned Over futile odds and laughed at by the Gods and now the final frame Love is a losing game

Its not about having a patent on something, its about someone with POWER at a label actually being afraid of someone doing something better than you can can do it, this is not the first time that the Knowles family has had something shelved in favor of their product at the Sony Label, its got nothing to do with who has got more talent, its about who has more clout. Columbia records has only one successful young black female R&b singer . ONE!
Columbia's artist roster once consist of 5 upcoming talents and each with right label backing could've secured successful careers for themselves Tiffany Evans Vivian Green Kelly Rowlands Michelle Williams Amerie Rogers Besides Michelle Williams & Kelly Rowlands who are fortunate enough not to fear being dropped (cos Columbia would not dare complicate the chances of what is sure to be a huge money maker , another Destiny's Child album) , the other two have left/been dropped fromn the label (Amerie & Vivian) Tiffany Evans album was a commercial disaster and received minimal label backing Even Kelly & Michelle who have the benefit of have close ties to one of the labels biggest money makers are still facing commercial failure even tho they have been considerably alotm more opprtunities than Amerie , Tiffany & Vivian ever had

[Edited 6/16/08 20:26pm] Also if you think Matthew Knowles doesnt have power at sony than you are in a dream world. Tommy mottola who you mention has zero pull now, he is a shell of who he once was. If you dont think these "cut throat" things dont go on, ask Benny Medina who basically has done the deal for anyone who writes his checks. All i can say is if you dont believe it, whatever like i care, its a known fact, just do some research on the track "1 thing" and its origins, also look into Rich harrison, and how much of a producer/writer he really is and isnt.
