anyone heard of any b-sides for this album?

At this very early, impressionable stage the first 4 (Orphans, Gamma Ray, Chemtrails, Modern Guilt) and that last two (Profanity Prayers, Volcano) songs speak to me the loudest.
He really does sound completely freaked out and bombastic at times here; much like with Spiritualized. And a true “kiss off” in multiple ways, “Volcano”, the album's incredible closer, is a devastating look into being so lost in mindless repetition that you begin to doubt your own senses and even lose the ability to find the will to form a gesture that might change the path. Just shoot what's left of his bones. Brilliant.

I've just read two reviews of Beck's performances in Holland (last week) & Belgium (last weekend) and they were both pretty bad. Apparently the show is boring and uninspired, the new song don't come off well performed live.....

I saw him in 1996, the 'Odelay'-tour and it was fuckin' awesome.....I had not seen anything like him back then.....maybe his shtick is wearing off 12 years later? I haven't really listened much to 'Modern Guilt' yet, I was intrigued by 'The Information'.....

very good lyrics! I think so too - any more detail on the CD packaging/liner notes - anything worth mentioning? The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

my expectations were nice and low (flavoured by his last effort)
and I was pleasantly suprised! I don´t have much time for listening to music lately so I¨ve only listened to it once, seems very good though. Beck always gets so much credit and I´m not always sure why. Apart from being an ugly, millionaire scientologist he did create that 1 off classic album, "sea change" Although there are some very fine songs scattered throughout his albums the rest is ok but mostly throw away material. I think my irritation with beck is rooted in something like a lack of personality in his music and voice. I think that´s possibly what some people like about him. small circles, big wheels!
I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

I think he has a lot of personality, but I will say that his music is often missing the personal element. Sea Change aside (which seemed self consciously personal) his music is fun, but not exactly moving. I'm a fan of his, but that's my biggest complaint. Who is Beck? My Legacy

The Disc is GREAT!!!!!
IMO, what defines good art is that i can listen to it more than once and hear things I missed every time. Beck is a genius and I'll buy anything he puts out.

Wow - which is my word of the week.
I was going to say how I wasn't sure I wasn't a big Beck fan, but as I read on.... it's verbalized. "personality" I like the songs, but I'm not compelled to buy his albums. I thought of this while I was admiring "gamma ray". I need to invest in some of his albums.

An individualist is a man who lives for his own sake and by his own mind; he neither sacrifices himself to others nor sacrifices others to himself...

aalloca said: Bfunkthe1 said: Interesting. As a fan of "prog", I hear more late 60's prog than 70's. You know, the beginnings of prog as opposed to the more technical 70's prog. It is kinda prog-pop I guess. As I stated earlier, Beck said he was going for a 60's sounding vibe. He succeeded. And without sounding overtly retro. Regardless, I like it and look forward to hearing the rest. Would you agree that the bassline is very Chris Squire like? Yes, Chris Squire seems to be channeled on Chemtrails. Jesus, I almost had to read the liner notes. Long distance runaround is right.
