Boy George to perform for NYC sanitation workers on Aug. 17 at 23:18 on June 11, 2008, EDT.
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS NEW YORK - Two years ago Boy George swept the streets with New York City sanitation workers. Now he's performing for them. The entertainer says he will play a free concert at the sanitation department's Family Day on Aug. 17. "The people I worked alongside showed great kindness to me at a very difficult time, and I wanted to thank them all in a way that would show my appreciation," Boy George said through a publicist. The Culture Club frontman spent a week in August 2006 doing court-ordered community service. He was ordered to work for the department of sanitation after pleading guilty to falsely reporting a burglary at his lower Manhattan apartment. The police officers who responded there found cocaine. Boy George, who turns 47 on Saturday, will be on tour in the U.S. and Canada this summer. The sanitation workers remembered Boy George as a hard worker during his community service and were looking forward to seeing him again, spokesman Keith Mellis said. ©The Canadian Press, 2008 Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture!
