They were cool. Great band. They couldn't miss with John Taylor and Chic's drummer Tony Thompson. Robert Palmer left before they did the show I saw in L.A. He was replaced with Michael des Barres who was a different style of vocalist than Robert but was cool nevertheless.

Very cool.
I really dig The Power Station. I do like Niles' production on it, as well as the line-up. You really can't go wrong with all involved. And an Isley Bros cover as well!
Anyone dig Duran Duran's Notorious album with Niles producing?

There is a cd/dvd that was released a few years ago on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Pow...l_1#disc_1

Notorious is my 2nd fave Duran Duran album. It was funky and definitely underrated. Most of the fans around that time began to lose interest in the band since it was down to three regular band members, and their sound was changing a bit.

BG, considering how much I enjoy your posts (expertise and knowledge), I don't want to come across sounding condescending by pointing this out... Both Power Station albums were produced by Bernard Edwards (not Nile Rodgers). I realize how similar their productions sound (not to mention their history together in Chic). Bernard even played some bass on one or both albums too. Just thought I'd throw that in there.

You're exactly right. And pointing that out isn't condescending at all actually. It NEEDED to be pointed it out. The cold part about it is that I knew Bernard produced it but for some reason, I always thought Niles produced it. Mainly because Niles was producing a lot of other artists back then like Bowie and Madonna in 83 and 84, I just automatically "felt" Niles did Power Station as well. Not wanting to take anything away from Edwards because he was as much of part of the Chic sound as Niles was. And then Niles producing Duran's Notorious...I just subconciously toss Power Station into that mix. And Tony Thompson on drums didn't help any. But I never had anybody check me on a post AND compliment me at the same time! Thanx for both things.

Ha! No problem, BG. I was just giving props where they're due (your posts/threads are some of the most interesting on the org). Yeah, I figured you probably knew (that's why I pointed it out, not to check you on your facts). Their styles are very similar, and as you pointed out, Niles producing Notorious makes it that much more confusing (I'm thinking that Niles did Wild Boys and View To A Kill too). Looking back, I've always enjoyed the work of both guys. Their sound was a lot more organic/rock-oriented than RnB producers of that time (sleek synthetic producers like Jam/Lewis, Kashif, Calloways, Leon Sylvers). Then again, most of the material I know of theirs was from pop/rock artists and/or "crossover" RnB artists.

Anyway, I digress... the Power Station was/is a great album -- the musicians and the production. I only wish they would have followed it up a year or two later with another album (not 11 years later). Seems like Palmer was so involved in his solo career ($$) that he couldn't even be bothered with finishing a single tour. Funny how the reunion album didn't appear until well after his career had waned. I think any PS songs/albums directly after the first LP (same band, producer and great material) would have aged a lot better than some of Palmer's MTV hits (not that he didn't have a few good tunes in there). Oh well!
