why all the love for "Frozen" live? it's great on wax but onstage it's an utter bore. it totally killed the momentum of DWT.

OMG! "Frozen" is my absolute highlight on the DWT, it's a breathtaking performance!!!!

On the other hand, the RIT performance is a letdown and VERY uninspired for a tour called "re-invention"...

I have to disagree. I saw RIT tour when I wasn't a fan and did not know a lot of her songs, except the old classics. I had never heard Frozen before. It was my most memorable moment of the entire show. I was blown away! I loved how everything on stage shut down and she sang it so simply. It was beautiful.

I'd love to see the DWT performance of it. One of these days, I'll watch her old shows on DVD. I'm a big fan, but haven't reached that level yet. smile

Yeah,'The Girlie Show' and 'The Drowned World Tour' are two different tours.

The Girlie Show is a brief tour that took place in late 1993 and ended in early 1994.It focused mainly on the 'Erotica' album and only played a few dates in the US.

Of course,The Drowned World Tour is a major tour that took place in the summer and fall of 2001.

Both shows are on DVD,so what are you waiting for? Nobody's gonna show you how! Get those DVDS and start your Madonna education lol lol lol

I'm gonna give you a quiz someday,lol.

Huh? Why is "The Girlie Show" tour a brief and I assume, minor tour and the "The Drowned World" tour a major tour? "The Girlie Show" tour had 39 shows (mostly in stadiums) compared to "The Drowned World" tours 47 (which exclusively happened only in arenas)!

"The Girlie Show" tour hit more areas and played in the USA, Canada, Caribbean, South America, Europe, Africa (well, almost), Asia and Australia compared to "The Drowned World" tour, which only played in the USA and Europe! So "The Girlie Show" tour definitely was a more major tour than the DWT and a real world tour at that!

Just because there were only a few shows in the US doesn't make it a less major tour!

But yes, I definitely recommend watching the "Girlie Show" over the DWT tour! It gives a more satisfying overview over her career... DWT features too many post '94 songs!

The Girlie Show was on the road for 4 months and DWT was on the road for 3. I would say the Girlie Show was the bigger undertaking.

I know what he meant. Girlie show was in the wake of her 'slump' circa SEX and Erotica and thus shunned the US and any major promo - besides being aired on HBO, it wasn't even really talked about over here that she was on tour, whereas her last tour (BA) had been like the biggest stage show in the history of pop!

DWT, on the other hand, was everywhere and sold out so ridiculously fast and was controversial for including so few hits but having such outrageous ticket prices. It was much more publicized, and played more shows.

Just slightly. TGS features way too many Erotica songs that are simply not for the casual fan. Same for stuff like "I'm Going Bananas".

Even if DWT has only 2 pre-94 songs, it has all the ROL & Music hits!

MJ wasn't offered the whole song, just the music of it. Then Patrick Leonard gave it to Madonna who wrote the lyrics herself. Hence why it's one of her all time favourites. wink

Well, in that case... assuming it's true, which I'm still not quite sure on whether I believe it, Michael and Quincy thought the same as me... it doesn't fit Michael at all and thank god he declined it! wink

yeah but The Girlie Show was her last tour to feature all or mostly live instruments - DWT, and beyond, with Stuart Price (a DJ) musical directing, I wonder why she even bothered hiring/paying musicians, 90% of that shit is all pre-recorded it seems.

Latest news from Drownedmadonna:

DrownedMadonna.com wants to share with Madonna's fans some tidbits from the first steps of the rehearsals of the Sticky & Sweet Tour. Many things and songs keep on changing... so stay tuned!

One of the sections begins with a musical intro from the "Topkapi" movie which lands to "Buenos Aires" from the "Evita" soundtrack. A suitcase choreography ending with ensable cast is being considered. "Buenos Aires" is currently followed by "Spanish Lesson".

Surprisingly "She Is Not Me" is being rehearsed linked with "My Name Is Not Susan".

The 2008 version of "Everybody" features a heavy SKD sample.

A beautiful Sytar and voice version of "Secret" is being considered.

"La Isla Bonita" is closing a section which is currently dedicated to India, with Bollywood style music and choreography.

An "Holiday" intro is being considered for "4 Minutes".

A lot of oldies are being rehearsed, many of them totally reworked.

A controversial screen video by Steven Klein ends one of the sections.

So far 4 video screens are being considered, one of them is the opening of the show

OK - Buenos Aires Im loving - as am the My Name Is Not Susan bit (how fucking random is that - wonder what Whitney will make of it).

Bollywood anyone?????

Love love loving the inclusion of Secret. Cant believe La Isla Bonita is back AGAIN! Liking the sound of LOTS of oldies being rehearsed. exciting times for M fans.

THIS sounds like it will definitely kick ass!!!
"Secret", "Everybody"!!! Definitely a couple of my faves.

I also read that the "Susan" might be an unreleased song related to Desperately Seeking Susan. But, I guess we'll have to see.

I gotta say that "La Isla Bonita" is a bit overperformed, but with this new Bollywood style it should be cool to see what they do.

I LOVED THE CONFESSIONS VERSION. TOTALLY FRESH AND HIGH ENERGY!
ANYONE AGREE?

o yea, is there anyone out there who agrees with me that "Hollywood" has never been properly done on tour? I mean c'mon...it was a mere interlude on RIT, and done on promo stuff, but the slight musical difference that was used at the 2003 VMA's was cool.
I would kill to see it that way on this tour. biggrin but without britney, christina, and the wedding theme razz

I live in a major US city.If a tour doesn't play my area,I consider it "minor" hmph! lol

Ah, I see... the american ignorance! Thought so! razz Fact is, "The Girlie Show" played to more people, played bigger venues, hit more cities and countries and thus is the bigger tour!

YEA Girlie Show was internationally huge. It was her first to visit latin america, australia, and all kinds of other places. The only reason it didn't come around that much here was because of the poor sales of 'Erotica' and the backlash and controversy surrounding the album and the SEX book.

^^^^Yeah, that is also one of the reasons I prefer the Girlie show... the music and arrangements on that tour were awesome! And in general the show had much more warmth to it, compared to the DWT!

The Girlie Show featured her best band ever! The drummer,Omar, was especially good. Those guys created fresh new arrangements to the songs, even getting funky on occasion.Hopefully, the new band will be nearly as good.

yeah but The Girlie Show was her last tour to feature all or mostly live instruments - DWT, and beyond, with Stuart Price (a DJ) musical directing, I wonder why she even bothered hiring/paying musicians, 90% of that shit is all pre-recorded it seems.

I always thought that was an irrelevant argument. Madonna's post-1998 music is mainly electronica, so it's obvious that her shows would be pre-recorded and all. And just because it was a "real" band on TGS, it doesn't make the Erotica songs any better. razz

it's not irrelevant if you pay $150-$300 to go and see someone and you want to hear some live instruments because you actually value LIVE. MUSIC.
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

It makes a huge difference to me. You must be able to hear the difference between the programmed tracks of Erotica - and the live versions - they're so much warmer. Id say Bye Bye Baby, Fever, Rain, Whys It So Hard were all improved with a live band. As Madonna said in that girlie Talk interview - if you're not going to do anything different, people may as well just go and buy your record and listen at home.

I hated Steve Sidelnyk (or whatever his name was) as a drummer. He was sooooo boring - the worst thing to come out of her William Orbit collaboration, so Im just glad he's gone - anything will be an improvement on that. Hopefully a decent bass player, maybe some percussion, and itll all be good. Maybe she could replace Monte with Wendy Melvoin too. Its about time M got some girl action in her bands.
