I think she should start off with a video of a remix of "music" then a huge chunk of HC songs, then all her oldies:

Music (Remix) (intro, a la The beast within)
Heartbeat
Candy Shop / I Want Candy
Give it 2 Me
Beat Goes On / And the Beat Goes on (Whispers sample)
She's Not Me
--
Borderline/Burning Up/Gambler
Dress You Up
--
Beautiful Stranger
Now I'm Following You
Hollywood
--
Who's that Girl
Spanish Lesson
Deeper and Deeper
Love Tried to Welcome Me/Miles Away
Rain
--
Everybody
Physical Attraction
Into the Groove
--
Hung Up
4 Minutes

On another forum,a fan pointed something out that I think is important. On this tour, she is playing several stadiums. In an arena, she could get away with singing a few rare, lesser hits (like "Bad Girl" or "Human Nature").But in massive stadiums, she's gotta do the HITS....the well-known stuff that everybody knows. So I bet she's gonna be playing alot of her biggest hits on this tour.I predict she'll bring out "Like A Prayer","Into The Groove","Ray Of Light","Music","Vogue",etc.....the MAJOR hits.

I think her current music is still popular enough that she can still afford to ignore the major hits, stadiums or not. Remember when asked about her song choices on the promo tour, she said something like "I'm mostly doing stuff from my new album, because I think that's what people expect to hear, and "Hung Up", which was the biggest hit from my last record and "Music" which is very anthemic". With this point of view, I can't imagine Madonna doing more than a handful of 80s stuff on this tour.

And the stadiums are not really a big deal. There are only a few stadiums in the US leg, as for Europe, she can sell out no matter what she sings, especially in countries like France, and now in the several new cities that she hasn't visited before. It's only the UK, where none of the dates sold out yet, not even the opening night, so that's where the setlist could backfire...

Good setlist! thumbs up! I like how you included a Whispers sample with "Beat Goes On".

I agree, the early 80s stuff would mix very well with the new Hard Candy songs.Hard Candy is basically a "modernized" version of her first album.Timbaland and Justin have said that they used the first album as inspiration when they produced the new album. The Pharrell tracks have an early 80s vibe as well.I think she should bring out "Borderline" and "Physical Attraction" from the first album and "Dress You Up" and "Angel" from the second album.

I remember hearing that during the making of that album and they really did recapture the sounds of the first album, especially with songs like the beat goes on, give it to me, incredible etc.

Yeah, they really took it back to the 80s."Heartbeat" has the same, pulsating 80s vibe as "Lucky Star"...."Give It To Me" sounds like a long-lost 1984 New Wave dance track....her vocals on "Beat Goes On" are straight from 1987."She's Not Me" sounds like one of those early-80s R&B dance jams....straight outta 1982.This album has "retro" written all over it.

If she wheels out "Who's that Girl", I'll throw down $400 to see her do it. No questions asked. With that being said, I really think it's a long shot. She hasn't even really acknowledged that the song exists since it's exclusion from The Immaculate Collection (although it did end up on the Holiday EP released at the same time).Even if she doesn't include it on the setlist, it needs to be on the tracklisting for her next greatest hits set. It's one of her few trans-Atlantic chart toppers, and, to my experience a huge fan favorite.
Plus, it's got one of the best bridges (if not the best bridge) in a Madge song ever: "Light up my life..."

Wow you really love that song, huh? lol It's not one of my favorite Madonna songs but I wouldn't mind hearing it on this tour. She hasn't performed it in years so I know it would get a great reaction from fans.I hope she plays "Causing A Commotion" which is also from that album.I like that one alot."The Look Of Love" would be nice too,but that is really a long-shot,lol.

a couple things from Ray of Light (Swim/Skin/Nothing Really Matters/Power of Goodbye)
Human Nature

Into The Groove

Good choices thumbs up! from ROL,I would like to hear "To Have And Not To Hold" and one of the hits from that album...maybe "Frozen" or the title track,if it's performed with a new arrangement.

Though I'm not a huge fan of Madonna's early work, I thought her performances of Like a Virgin and Lucky Star on the last tour were definite highlights. I loved how she re-contextualized them. The Like A Virgin performance brought an entirely new meaning to the song. So I would like to see several vintage Madonna songs - recontextualized, updated, cross-referenced while at the same time, encapsulating the nostalgia in a sort of past-life regression-type experience. biggrin

Madonna enjoys doing this....re-inventing the old songs, giving them new arrangements and new meaning.I think she sees it as a challenge....to come up with new and exciting ways to present old songs that everyone is familiar with.Did you ever see the silly,outrageous,campy,over-the-top performance of "Like A Virgin" on the Girlie Show? LOL.

okay so I finally bought Hard Candy...my dream setlist is quickly developing... I agree that the new album has retro written all over it!

Girlie Show was before my time as a Madonna fan. smile But yeah, re-inventing old classics is one of the best things she does. And if she turned her tours into Greatest Hits tours, I'm afraid I might lose interest altogether. I'm sure she won't though, because what she is doing is really what she wants to do, and that's why her shows are so great.

If you haven't see 'The Girlie Show',you MUST see it!! It's on DVD.Many fans think it's Madonna's best tour.

I can't see Madonna ever doing a "greatest hits show".She would probably be bored with a show like that. She likes to perform the new songs.

I used to think that, but now I think it's terribly dated. The first segment is simply boring, with "Rain" being ruined with bad vocals and the remix version, and the second part is so irrelevant after we got a much better disco section on The Confessions Tour. "Like A Virgin" & "Justify My Love" are amazing though, also "Bye Bye Baby", "La Isla Bonita" & "Holiday" are quite good as well.

Candy Shop - Obvious opener
Beat Goes On- Great song
Everybody - It will be good if she gives it an update
Deeper And Deeper * -Amazing song. Great choice
Causing A Commotion - another great surprise.
Take A Bow - Blah
Rain (interlude) - She should do this instead of Take a Bow. Only because "Take A Bow" is soooo over played.
Devil Wouldn't Recognize You - good not great.
Justify My Love - Awesome, but for some reason I can't see her doing this song live. It would make a great costume change number.
Heartbeat - I love this song.
Now I'm Following You - WTF?? Stupid. Either do "Sooner or Later" or "Something to Remember:
Hollywood - Can somebody tell me why "Nothing Fails" was pretty much ignored as an incredible Madonna Classic?? It's crazy. The song is AS GOOD AS IF NOT BETTER THAN "Like A Prayer". It makes NO SENSE!
She's Not Me - What would really rock is if she brought Wendy Melvoin on tour with her. That would be excellent.
Express Yourself - I would love to see this song done classic style.
Human Nature - Please NO. GOD NO.
Miles Away/Love Profusion - "Miles Away" YES. Again, "Nothing Fails" instead.
Dress You Up/Physical Attraction - Awesome!!! "Dress You Up" has been gone too long. She should bring out a third while she's at it..."Into The Groove"?
Get Together - LOVE
Dance 2Night - LOVE
Impressive Instant - YES, but maybe mix "Music" in with it and call it a day. That record doesn't deserve so much space. Sorry Madge. Not inspired.
Vogue - Make it super new. The old Vogue is over played.
Give It To Me - Sure. She kind of has to do it.
Music - See "Impressive Instant".
Hung Up - URGH. Please don't. Do "Sorry" instead. Hung Up is a hit, but again...way over played. Way commercialized.
4 Minutes- Good song. Not a good ending.
**I heard that "Ray Of Light" might be getting done. That would be a super big mistake. The song has been run into the ground and it's not that great live. I don't understand her affection for that song when she has way better in her catalogue. Everytime I've seen it live the crowd just stands there.

Really? I loooooved the last section of The Confessions tour - probably the most fun I've ever had at a Madge show (the San Jose crowds rule!) - but overall I don't think it was her strongest show. Loved the opening (so camp - don't know how she'll top that one this time out), but after "Jump" I felt the show majorly dragged (though part of "Isaac" was cool, and the lip synched "Sorry" kicked arse). "Erotica/You Thrill Me" is probably her best concert moment ever IMO...but yeah, the whole Middle Eastern and Rock and Roll Segments went on for 49049094494040 hours it felt.

"The Girle Show" on the other hand is her best tour IMO. (2nd best is obviously BA). The live drums, the percussionist (!), the funky breakdown the band did on "Why's it So Hard," "Holiday" was the best it's ever been, "Deeper and Deeper" was the shit, "Fever" was awesome, "Vogue" was the best she's ever done it, same for "La Isla Bonita" (why does she love the shit out of that song? does she know it was originally for MJ?)...best Maddy show I so wish I saw, in support of her best album.

I thought "Erotica/You Thrill Me" was a dead moment actually. Because not only the choreography is dull in my opinion, the audience had absolutely no clue about that song, and it just killed the flow among all the big hits. Musically it was a nice treat for fans though.

"well I had just won a Golden globe for Evita, just finished this GREAT record, and just given birth to my daughter, and I just still wasn't fulfilled..." lol

I loved the song ROL in it's day but now it seems like one of her most dated singles. Music, Frozen, and Beautiful Stranger have all held up much better IMVHO. Why will she never consider Beautiful Stranger again for a tour???

If she performs anything from ROL,I would want her to do "Frozen" and one of the non-singles from this album,"To Have And Not To Hold" (acoustic style). If she blended it into a medley with "Miles Away",that would be one of the highlights for me.
