This Stevie written song is so underrated (Diana Ross's last soulful moment) I've always loved this song. It's one of those classics no one knows about. Diana misses out half the first line here, but still, you can hear how great the song is. This is a good example of how when an artist reaches a certain age, it doesn't matter how good their material is, they are not gonna sell as well as younger artists. If Diana had released a song this good ten years earlier, it would have been a smash. Stevie's writing was drying up by this point, but he could still turn out the odd gem.

No love for this song? Well, I did say it was underrated. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

it's from around 1991??? I must admit Stevie Wonder's 1990s are no favorite of mine. so far it's the decade I like the least.

It's a good song, but I wouldn't call it one of my favorites. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

That's great, but what about this song? “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

I'm a fan Diana Ross fan, but I never got into this. A friend of mine kept trying to get me to like this album and it didn't do anything for me. When You Tell Me That You Love Me, from the same album, is like It's My Turn Pt. II. It's all so by-the-numbers.

Her vocals here remind me just how much I like her. Her technique is similar to mine

That was a very nice performance from Ms.Ross. Thank you so much for sharing the video.

The undervaluing of this song confirms what I've said before about gems artists produce outside of their golden eras being overlooked. Obviously Stevie's peak was the '70s, just like P's was the '80s, but both of them still did some great work after those days that are totally overlooked.
If Stevie had released "Ordinary Pain" on the Jungle Fever album in 1991, most people would just say "'90s Stevie? Aaahh, hell no" and not even give the song a fair hearing because of it's context. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

Or maybe I just don't like it?

Wasn't referring specifically to you. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

Wasn't referring specifically to you. I know you weren't. And Diana's "hair" was out of control around this time! It just looked like dyed pillow stuffing.
