Debarge and El Debarge Appreciation Thread

El Debarge is one of the most talented and fine ass brothers in the world. I love his beautiful and soulful songs. i really wish that he would come back out and bless us with some new music. Are there any fans who still love this brother? I especially love his song Another Chance from IN The Storm CD.That song is soo sexy and sensual it puts me in a certain kind of mood. biggrin

He was great as a part of DeBarge but the only solo song of his that I like is "Real Love".

Yeah, I was more into his stuff with his siblings than his solo work. I did like "In The Storm" though. That had that one song he did with Chante Moore, right?

How can we forget that one "Facts of Life" episode where the Eastland girls won a contest to record a song with him? lol

Which song because El have did a couple of songs with Chante Moore like Love ME Tonight which is my favorite and You know What I Like and In The Storm. I think the cd In The Storm is one of my favorite cd's of El as a solo artist next to Heart Mind and Soul.

"All This Love" is my favorite DeBarge song music

"Love Always" is my favorite El DeBarge solo song music

I still can't figure out why El didn't become a superstar when he went solo.I feel the same way about Howard Hewitt. These guys had so much success in the groups they were in but once they left, the hits just dried up.Makes no sense.

I found this site yesterday:

http://www.debargenetwork.com/

It has a performance by El from November of last year. It clears up the rumors about his voice being shot.

I'm a geek so I know yesterday was El's birthday. redface

The link to the vid doesn't work on that site anymore, try this one:

Yes I have MAMA Debarges Book, but i think it has a lot of missing gaps in the story of Debarge. Hopefully Bunny's book will be more detailed and will talk more about the life of Debarge in more depth.

El DeBarge and his family said in interviews that Motown more or less pressured him into leaving DeBarge. Moreover, his self-titled album contained a lot of insipid, crossover-intentional songs that tried to put him in that Whitney Houston/Lionel Richie/Billy Ocean realm.

Personally, El had good chemistry with his siblings and he never came off as comfortable being a solo artist (not to mention for his first two albums he was still with the music company that essentially separated him from his siblings). Unlike a Michael Jackson, El seemed lost without the others (especially on stage). Later in his solo career, Randy and Bunny frequently performed on stage as backup singers.

I chalk up El and Howard Hewett as acts who simply worked better in the group setting where they became famous because so much of their identities were tied into that concept. Other examples over the years are James "J.T." Taylor, Phillip Bailey, Aaron Hall, Morris Day and Ralph Tresvant.

The only El Debarge/Debarge song I like is "I Like It"
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

His debut is one of my all time fav albums, but I agree they wanted him to crossover. He didn't even co-write one single song off that album. And 3 cuts featuring Diane Warren LOL. Heaven for me, hell for anyone who liked his rnb stuff LOL. Only cuts that could get an rnb pass were "someone" and the Burt Bacharach/Carole Bayer sager cut "love always". For me, not a bad song on there really. Album sounds closer to Chicago in places then anything actually. Certainly not Whitney Houston though.

LaCienega

I remember when my cousin was walking in downtown LA and ran into Chico on skid row buying crack.

She said his fingers were all burned from holding that hot crack pipe.

She even took a pic with him and he was wearing a wife beater covered in dirt.
