Anyone remember this Prince rip off?

Shame the rest of the album was poor, as I like this song.

The only similarity to Prince I hear is the woman's voice in the track, its just Carmen Electra and Ingrid speaking all through His songs, and this doesn't reach the level of P's cheesiest songs.

Its Ingrid doing the adlibs. And please, the voice is so Camille LOL. Song itself was not the sort of thing he woulda done in 1991, but the goofy nature of the cut has a big Prince vibe I think.

Yeah I remember this stupid song. Had me fooled for a second when I first heard it. "D & P"'s release was just around the corner and I thought this was the first single.

lol I knew exactly what song you meant before I clicked on the thread.

I still like the song -- in fact, I like it more now than I did then.

I don't really see anytihng particulary Prince-y about it. It sound like 100's of other pop songs of that era
Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

I always thought the female voice was Niki Haris? I seem to recall her credited in the single at some point.

Ingrid did write the song, and she was featured in the FIRST version of the song. However the song was re-recorded with Niki as the vocalist. The previous version is featured on Testament. There is still question regarding was this a Prince write off or just an inspiration off of the Camille vocals....which I think is the case.

Yeah, it's the vocal and what he's singing that are ripping off Prince, but the actual music is just standard pop from the era. Obviously the artist was a Prince fan, but the producer was less P influenced.

I don't remember anyone thinking this was a Prince song!
I can hear what you mean NOW though.

I thought this song was rather annoying at the time, but I like it now!

Was Prince's album not already out by then? I guess that was back when he put out a new album every year.

I still have this "Do Anything" song on a PolyTel CD compilation I brought to work today called Awesome Hits. lol

I HATED the second version of this song. I just thought Niki's laughter and come-ons sounded so fake. Sure, I had an affinity for Ingrid because of her connection to Prince, but that aside, I still think her voice is much sexier.

I seem to recall them pulling Ingrid's voice from this song and re-recording with Niki because of a record label dispute. I think Ingrid claimed she wrote all or part of "Justify My Love" and wanted some credit. SOMEONE feel free to correct me, as that could have come from a dream.

As far as Justify My Love goes, yes, Ingrid co-wrote it with Lenny before he brought it to Madonna. Initally Lenny didn't credit her at all. Her name has been listed as a songwriter for that song for some time now (though my version of Immaculate Collection does not list her).

At least, I think that's the way it goes.

Thanks for the info! My version of IC does not list IC in the credits.

"I wanna be your baby" - that lyric is both songs, correct?

I TOTALLY thought this was the first single off 'Diamonds & Pearls'...I think when you are excited for a new Prince album..you can be easily fooled...remember..this was before internet, you tube, etc...it was radio and that sped up voice sounded like Camile....

I also thought 'Tennessee' by Arrested Development was a Prince song too at first...
