"Working Girl" by Cheri (1983) Remember Cheri's 1982 R&B smash hit "Murphy's Law"? A huge hit in the summer of that year. She returned in the spring of '83 with "Working Girl",a song about prostitution.
my mother was the same, don't be so surprised I remember hearing the song for the first time and thinking that it was Vanity 6...lol...this sounds like something they might have done and the co-lead vocal on the chorus sounds like Brenda. Not to mention the controversial subject matter!

Just a different avenue Hell yeah. That was a great song. too bad it flopped as a single.I guess the subject matter was too controversial for radio programmers in 1983? Never mind the fact, just a few years earlier, you had Donna Summer singing "hey mister....have you got a dime?" in her own tribute to the world's oldest profession, lol.

I've heard of this song. My computer here sucks though so I won't be able to hear it until later.

I don't think it was too controversial for the time. Whores were in back then. Pimps and whores were all over the television and movies. Rick James mentioned whores plenty of times in his songs like "Money Talks" and "Pimp The Simp". Divine Sounds had out "What People Do For Money" which mentions whores in the song, not to mention the dub version that has a whore talking on it. Grandmaster Flash had out "New York, New York" with the guys talking at the end...."man look at those bad girls they got workin' the corner". Ashford and Simpson had out "Street Corner". "The Jeffersons" had an episode about a hooker. "The Facts Of Life" had an episode about hookers. I'm telling ya, whores were the shit back then. Damn, those were good times. Andy is a four letter word.
