paul mccartney and michael jackson have 2 duet songs and it

saying it was great inverstition,so michael
bought the rights to beatles songs.
how did paul react on this michal's move?
was there any feedback from paul?

paul said this in a playboy 1984 interview :

PLAYBOY: Do you take Michael Jackson seriously as a songwriter?

PAUL: No, I don't particularly admire him as a writer, because he hasn't
done much. I admire Stevie Wonder more. And Stephen Sondheim. Probably
one of the best.

That 1984 Playboy interview was the harshesz interview Paul ever gave. He even talked in a rather negative way about John. Remember, in 1984 MJ bought the rights and Paul must have been furious.

BTW, they recorded three songs, The Girl Is Mine, Say, Say, Say and The Man.

Yeah, Paul gave him the advise, and MJ did what Paul told him. MJ bought teh Northern Songs rights legally, Paul had the same choice but wasn't willing to spend much money.
Even in 1984 he muist have had half a million Pounds and could have afoorded teh rights.
So, Paul is furious over MJ, even today, and keeps on wishing that Mj would give him more money fro his signature songs like Yesterday...

Even PM fans have to admit how chldish Paul appears on that topic. MJ did nothing wrong. But I guess, in 1984 he could do nothing wrong!!!

You really can't fault Mike for that. It was very smart of him. He might be a little wacky, but he is one hell of a business man. While other artist are busy recording albums, MJ's is just sitting back collecting royalties from other people's music. Smart move.

well, those time sare long gone. Peopel doubt he even owns the rights anymore. Sony owns the half anyway.
That: MJ's a good business man was right in the 80s.

The thing is, we don't know what is and isn't true. There have been alot of stories made up about this guy,(some of these stories have been started by the man himself). So, it is really hard to tell.

Paul McCartney is a little wuss, he gave Michael the advise about investing in publishing, the opportunity arose and MJ DID tell Paul he was gonna bid, but Paul did'nt take him seriously (he even re-enacted the whole thing on an Oprah episode, going so far as to mock MJ's voice). He was the one who chose NOT to bid, MJ was successful and paul got mad. Whatever, how much longer is Paul gonna gripe over this? and people keep forgeting that paul also OWNS other peoples music!!!! Remember that!

and they were cool for some time after that. It wasn't until Michael started licensing the Beatles songs to commercials when things got bad between them

One good thing came out of Michaell buying the catalog, he gave Little Richard his publishing rights back biggrin
and did you know Michael threatened Sly Stone that if he didn't want to get off drugs, he was gonna sell his songs? Sly's catalog isn't part of Sony/ATV, but under Mijac Music publishing

He and Paul were friends after he bought the catalog, it was until 1987/88 when Michael let Nike use "Revolution" for a commercial

There is/was a video on YT, when Paul learned that MJ was buying the Beatles catalogue, MJ said to him: "it's only money" and Paul answered "it's about friendship too".

Hearing a Beatles tune in a commercial at that time was a huge deal. I remember reading about it a few times in music publications, and my brother would not shut the fuck up about MJ licensing it. lol

i believe there are different types of rights. the rights of writers who get paid because it is their work being played. Maca still owns those. The part he doesn't own is the administration or publishing rights. Techincally the Beatles rights are split 50-50 with Sony ATV and Maca and the Lennon estate.

I bet McCartney is thanking Michael now for buying the Beatles' catalogue. Because if he hadn't and Paul still owned it, it's probably now belong to Heather Mills.

Here's the deal.
They were supposed to be FRIENDS.
Michael calls Paul and asks his advice on the business.
Paul gives him some advice.
Michael THEN turns around and buys Beatles catalog out from under Paul.

PAUL DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHO HE WAS BIDDING AGAINST!!!!!

Now, you could argue that's good business sense, but that's FUCKED UP to do that to a "friend".

Can you imagine if a "friend" did that to YOU?

Karma's a bitch. That's why Paul's rich, and Mike's borderline broke.

It works either way: A high quality human hair wig like the one he wears costs a fortune! lol

(And the same goes for a really nice weave.)

Supposedly, Little Richard's rights were connected to The Beatles rights.

MJ gave to Richard at no cost/price.

I guess Paul is expecting the same favor?

According to divorce court papers, Paul is actually worth around 400 million $. However, MJ's share on ATV and Sony is worth over a billion $.

nod

Folks who though MJ walked outta Sony empty-handed are sadly mistaken.

Contrary to the timid appearance,,,he's a shrewd business man
