Baby Huey and the Babysitters APPRECIATION

I useta see Huey at small clubs in Chicago before he started gaining some notariety.
When he started to get bigger (both figuratively and physically) his manager got him to dress up and perform in a giant diaper and bonnet like the cartoon character of the same name. It was really sad if you ask me; it kind of made a mockery out of him and did nothing for his music except to distract. I saw him at the Aragon Ballroom on the bill with Cream and Parliament when they were still a sharkskin suited, processed hair wearin' vocal ensemble touring behind their hit Testify. I have always thought that when they dropped acid and became the P-Funk mob that they ripped the diaper idea from Huey after seeing him that night. Within the context of their weird stage show the diaper works but with 400 pound Huey it was just ridiculous and none of his other band members wore anything out of the ordinary. All hail James "Baby Huey" Ramey. When that man screamed your hair would stand on end and your gonads would shrink up into your body. He was a mighty, mighty power. [Edited 6/7/08 13:12pm]

His version of a change is gonna come is amazing. naturally Sam Cooke's version is a masterpiece but baby Huey really soared through this song. the band was great as well. Curtis mayfield produced that one and only classic album
