My George Clinton concert review (kinna long, setlist to come)

(cross-posted like a mug from housequake...sharing this with ya'll as well because i still love my non-prince forum wrecking crew grouphug)

"they say two-thousand-zero-zero, party over, oops, out of time...but, tonight we're gonna party like it's 1979!"

no, mr. nelson was not in attendance...and i swear to you, the p-funk crew didn't know that i was in the house earlier tonight. evillol

so anyway, i just got back from first avenue and MAN am i over-funked. along with my eardrums, the rest of my body is totally numb at the moment. seriously. wow. gotdamn...umm, where shall i begin...

i stepped outta the house at about 8:30 tuesday night and headed over to first ave. i figured that nobody would really be there until later, but there was already a little line formed in front of the club. some cat from the stage crew had on this kick-ass chocolate city t-shirt so i was like, "heh, can i have your shirt?" he was all like "ha haaaaa, no way!" then he went in through the side door and for a moment he held it open for me. i was like wait...he's about to let me in for free? but i was like "nah man, i already have a ticket." so the cat was like "oh, alright" and went on his merry little way. dang...if i was just walking down the street and wasn't able to buy a ticket for the show, hell, chances are i coulda ended up seeing the gig for free! lol but i digress...

i showed my I.D., got a little wristband (nothing special, just a flourescent orange one) and got my ticket checked. the place was already fairly packed when i got in but i ended up getting a spot right up front by the stage, up against the security barrier and in front of one of the speakers on the right-hand side. i was like "aw hell yeah...but i'ma regret this in the morning, because my ears are gonna be shot to shit." dead the majority of the people there were around my age, there were some younger cats there (it was an 18+ show) and a lotta older folks. matter of fact, there were these two older cats who all the sudden popped up behind me, beers in hand, yelling and carrying on: "WHERE'S BOOTSY?! WE WANT THE P-FUNNNNNK!!11!!!" it was hilarious for about 5 minutes...then everyone within earshot was like "okay, we get it, shut up already!" pre-concert entertainment within the crowd. you gotta love it. nuts

on the ticket it said the show would start at 9 p.m. ...didn't happen that way. concerts seldom start on time. i dunno exactly what time the gig started but it wasn't too long before things started kicking off and when they finally got around to kicking off...it was OFF. the band started off with "funkentelechy", i remember that...then my brain was all like ohlawdtoofunkyyoucan'trememberallthisshitfuckasetlistjustwatchthegotdamnedshow. highlights of the gig:

-- the steeles made a guest appearance! omfg that i did not expect.
-- sir nose was in the house, of course. "james clown ass" indeed. giggle
-- george clinton looks even cooler in person. nod

and some other chit (besides the "where's bootsy?" guys):
-- even though there's now an indoor smoking ban here in mpls, somebody was either tokin' it up right nearby me or they had stepped outside to go smoke, then came back into the mainroom smelling like a high times scratch n'sniff sticker. the same thing happened during the 7/7 aftershow last year. wtf?! stoned

...wow. plus lots more. a setlist will probably be posted elsewhere online later on today and when it does get posted, i'll copy and paste it here. it's damn near 1:30 in the morning now, and i need to take my over-funked ass to sleep.

mornin, ya'll. horns
