Do you guys think R&B singer Christopher Williams was an imitator

Do you guys think that he was imitator in my opinion he tried to sound like Teddy Pendergrass.

I like his singing voice but I just think he tried to hard.

I don't believe Christopjer Williams wanted to be a Teddy Pendergrass as much as some people wanted to make the comparison. IMO, he was more of an Al B. Sure! clone with better chops but even less originality and creativity.

I had to be honest. When I first heard "I'm Dreaming", I almost thought "what? Is Michael McDonald trying to be New Jack Swing?!" falloff

The problem is that he never really had his own definitive style. His debut single "Talk to Myself" was clearly meant to piggyback on the success of Bobby Brown.

FWIW, I like a few of his songs quite a bit:

Promises, Promises
I'm Dreamin'
All I See
Every Little Thing U Do

I also thought he did not have much charisma, he had no dancing skills, no stage delivery, lacked sexuality

Never thought of that before, but now you mention it, he does sound like Michael, doesn't he?

I remember first hearing him on the Uptown Unplugged album singing Teddy's "Come and Go With Me" and thinking how great he sounded. Unfortunately I had it on a cassette that got chewed up so I haven't heard it in years, but I thought he sounded great. Recently I saw his duet with Stephanie Mills on Youtube and wasn't that impressed. Maybe he was just inconsistent.

I was bored enough to search YouTube for these. I can't believe I forgot about "Dance 4 Me."

you know, he was a reallly really laidback guy, not much to notice about him, like a wallflower. I remember going to a show where he was being videotaped, and they he was so dead, they had to teach him some sort of savy and how to dance just to make the song exciting. so yeah, he had to be groomed.

Yeah I believed he needed more personality and I saw him on Soul Train performing the song I Talk To Myself and he could not dance he was so stiff.

I knew right after recording the songs Promises, Promises and I'm Dreamin that he was not going to last long because there was rising talent such as Boyz II Men, Jodeci, Brian Mcknight and so on during that time.

yup that was the show where they had to stop the music and cameras rolling and a lady went up there with some, if I can remember, some background dancers to spruce up his performance. plus the lady told him to put some energy into his singing. I mean if you never saw his face, you would dang near think he was a powerful singer. he was that bad and that stiff.
If it wasn't for al b sure being almost his liking, and he wasn't that that great either, christopher would have been taken over.

He has some good music but I also think that his looks was what overshadowed him. He was hot because girls loved and was crazy about his looks. His duet was with Stephanie Mills in on an award show was okay but Stephanie mainly carried his performance.

I bought his debut album in 1989.Haven't played it in years but I remember liking the first three or four songs...."Talk To Myself","Sexy Sex","Never Let Our Love Die" and the one that follows. It wasn't a bad album.Never bought anything else by him.

LOL, yeah, I remember him as a better-looking Al B. Sure, who could sing, but I can't remember any of his songs.

The most I remember about him is his appearance in New Jack City, especially when Wesley Snipes talks about light-skinned bruvas... LOL.
