Sheila B. Devotion - King Of The World (CHIC Organization)

Hey, does anyone of you know this 1980 album?

as a big fan of early CHIC this album is part of my CHIC collection. (the first three Chic albums, "diana", "King", the two Sister Sledge albums and Norma Jean White...

it features Spacer, which was later sampled by a Scandinavian pop group. Since I was only born in 1988 i first new the sample songs and was gladly surpised the used music from a Chic song...

well anyway, do you like that album? It's more New Wave-ish I believe??

BTW, does someone of you own the Norma Jean album???

it doesn't sound liek disco!! the only song that sounds like what you might expect from Chic is Spacer!
Most songs have a new wavish vibe, or whatever it's supoosed to be. I like it, because I love Chic, but it doesn't have really strong melodies (expect Spacer)

yeah, have you noticed that they always worked with singers with teh sme kind of voice? mezzo-sopran or whatever it's called in English.
What makes Spacer a bit "trashy" is Sheila's singing and that funny french accent!! I don't know what she's singing but it sounds like: "Opression 'e 'eads"

I would say of all the albums Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards produced until 1980, this is the worst. But it's refreshing.

U should get it, Soul. It's a good album. U know I adore Chic and anything Niles produced. Power Station, Bowie, Madonna...hell that's really the only album I dug by Madonna was the one Niles produced! And u know the Bowie album was huge. Put Bowie back on top there in the 80's for a minute.

LOL...ironically,'Like A Virgin' is one of the few Madonna albums that I'm not that crazy about boxed There are some cool songs on it but I mostly prefer the stuff she did from 1989 to the present.Still,I know what you mean about Niles. He's an exceptional producer.

If you haven't you should check out Nile's solo record from 1984 called "B-Movie Matinee". It's a fascinating and fun record and obviously with Nile producing and his fantstic guitar playing it is a great listen. Nile sings lead on the record which takes time to adjust to but the songs are so clever (all the song titles come from old B-Movies) and as mentioned the musician ship and programming are fantstic. Check it out! I am now trying to track down a version of his previous solo album called (I think) "Adventures In The land Of The Good Groove" - any one know how I could get a cd or digital recording of this album?
