Michael Jackson pulled out of American Idol due to stage fright. Michael Jackson pulled out of appearing on the final of American Idol at the last minute, say reports.
According to The Sun, Jackson had agreed to perform on the reality show and was trying to keep his comeback gig a secret. However, shortly before the programme aired, the veteran popstar apparently told producers: "I can’t do it. Everyone will hate me." A source said: "This was his big chance but he got stage fright."

They said the same thing when there were rumours of him performing at the VMA's and he didn't show. The bottom line is he never had any intention of performing at either event.

I think this is probably true. It's becoming increasingly clear that he goes out of his way to avoid performing these days, apart from turning up to wave occasionally.

Shortly before the programme aired, eh? So that would have totally fucked up everything they'd rehearsed with all the contestants, wouldn't it? Utter bullshit. Surely there would be leaks from the contestants who had been performing with him in such rehearsals? Was MJ even in town long enough to have done that?
I think they did it with X-Factor too. Ooh, hint of huge former Motown artist to appear, WINK WINK... MJ rumours fly around in the press and Boyz II Men end up on it. They stick on the whole "MJ will do American Idol final" every year now. It's been at least 3 in a row where there have been rumours. Hint of a big 80s star to come on? Everyone says MJ, George Michael shows up. Hint of "biggest star in the world" to come on... everyone says MJ, Robert Downey Jr. shows up (since he was the #1 box office star in the world in the last month).

Cold as hell but oh so true. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Michael has never has stage fright in his life. lmao. He also has no shortage of ego. This is a recycled piece of bullshit from the Grammys, VMAs, BET. etc etc. What a crock. www.maximum-jackson.com

I doubt American Idol even contacted him to perform at the Finale. I'm sure they got the hint the first half a dozen times MJ declined invitations to perform or mentor for Idol or X Factor.

thing is , he is not afraid
he does not have stage fright he feels like he has done it all and he has nothing to prove( someone said in an interview last year) mj feels like he doenst have to do anything anymore

I don't think he has a voice anymore.
He'd have 2 lip-synch. "He's a musician's musician..."

don't know what's stupider...these same type of stories getting repeated ad nausea or the fact that people here 1) believe it and 2) will use it as another chance to bash mj.
not that i am opposed to mj bashing...but come on folks!!! Space for sale...

You would have thought, with him pulling this exact same stunt for everything he could concievably have appeared at for the last two years or so, that the producers of these things would have stopped bothering to book him, wouldn't you?
Now, who's going to tell George Michael that he was a desperate last minute choice...

From KOP-Board:
Simon Cowell was just on the Steve Wright show on BBC Radio 2. He says every year they ask him to perform and his people agree, but he never performs. They keep asking in the hope that one day he will surprise them and perform. He says the story of stage fright is not true.

I think Marlon is gonna be on the show. He's been busy lately http://odili.net/news/sou...3/603.html Marlon Jackson apologises to Nigerians - Sorry, I should have come earlier By David Ajiboye Friday, May 23, 2008 Celebrated musical family, the Jacksons recently visited Motherland Beckons with a delegation made up of Africans in the Diaspora. Marlon Jackson, has also accepted to be the international spokesperson for the Motherland Beckons initiative worldwide. It was with a great excitement that Marlon Jackson and his team were received on arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on May 4, 2008. With him were former Chairman of US Conference of Mayors, Mayor Gary Lobster, the first ever-black Mayor in the history of Michigan, Mayor Jack Sims, Estella Skimpson, Mayor Al Dixon, Fred Cleveland, Kareem Ali, road promoter to "the greatest" Muhammad Ali and Walter Emanuel Jones of the now rested television serial, Power Ranger. Marlon who has a vision for Nigeria said by physically being in the country, he was confirming to his fellow African American brothers, sisters and other Africans in the Diaspora that Nigeria is a safe place for tourism as against the negative media the country receives abroad. He has therefore awakened a general interest in Nigeria , which he confirms at a press conference later, "Coming to Nigeria for me is a great fulfillment. I must apologize to you all that we delayed for too long in coming here. Please accept our apology. For I can see Nigeria is a great place with great potentials, enormous resources and I can assure you, I am taking this message back to our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora." Before he left on May 9, 2008, Marlon and his entourage undertook a crash course in learning the African ways of life under a program called, "Taste of Africa", at Lacampagne Tropicana Beach Resort, the corporate headquarters’ of Motherland Beckons. Here the visitors were taught African foods, dances, meaning of African names cultural histories etc. Motherland Beckons, for those who are still in the dark about this major growing phenomenon, is the initiative which makes a clarion call on Africans in the Diaspora to come back home to Africa to integrate themselves back into the system. The program takes into consideration the fact that most Africans have lost touch with the African way of life, while some have never been to Africa . For the latter, Motherland Beckons provides for a root tracing and goes further to provide lodging when they come, with Kamp Afrika , another program to teach their kids about the African ways. I thought that's what he used to love about award shows. He should do it next year when the CD is ready.

Im not buying anything anymore that comes from anyone of the "jackson" publicists, its all bull, nonstop. I saw a clip of Michael Jackson the other night at some UFC event, in a wheelchair with a berka on basically, i mean, wtf? at this point, he is just a shell of a person at this point. Stage fright has always been an issue for MJ. It's one of the things that drove him to be so good in his prime. Does anyone remember he almost dropped out of Motown 25 for the same reason? And he has said that he cried after that historic performance because he was so sure that it sucked! Michael is judgemental as hell on himself. That's what led to all the plastic surgery and other drama.
Hopefully if he ever does come back, he will nail the performance.

Hopefully if he ever does come back, he will nail the performance. Mike said that when everyone from the Motown label who was there that night saw Mike after the performance that all of them were basically embracing him and congratulating him on the performance. Everyone from Marvin Gaye to the Temptations to Mary Wells. He said he felt better about his performance when a Jewish kid asked him how he did it. After that he had no problems with it. But Mike's problems is he fears imperfection.
