Why Should I Love You? Kate's early Demo (!!!!!) i have always loved the released version. but for many years i knew of 1st hand story that this song was so much better before prince contributed and did what sometimes prince does, even to his own great songs, which is to water them down in some way or another in the final released version. i found that somewhat hard to believe about this song, loving the album version as much as do, and thinking that was most great about the song seemed distinctively like prince contributions.
but loving kate as i do, and on the hunch that maybe it really was better, i have wanted this demo track (which i also recently found on the net) more than any other unreleased/demo track. and it truly is much better than the final released version. damn is it good. extra lyrics. different in chorus. so much more pathos. kate rules. for kate freaks, and those who are all about all things prince: . wow, that's a rough one to call....both versions are great...the prince-up up version has more energy yet the original has more soul...does that make sense?

hmmm... yes, prince's does have more energy and bounce, and kate's more soul. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the album version, but maybe it's the newness (for me) of this one, having another take, that has just got me so stoked, throwing off the judgment a bit. but even offsetting for that, i do think personally that this demo is definitely better. Wasn't into any kind of space or place where I would ever be into her music growing up and then I came late in discovering Tori Amos, which Kate Fans usually savage, and so I have tended to defend Tori and rejected Kate. I really only ever heard her red shoes album but that was like 13 years ago so I don't even remember it. I feel I owe it to myself to do it but so far haven't bit the sinful apple 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I like the Prince version better. Something about this one misses the mark with me. I like what he did with her vocals and the chorus.
I can't say that I was a Kate Bush fan before, but some of her stuff was ok. I think her lyrics are nice, I just prefer someone else singing them like Maxwell with "This Woman's Work." perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

Ooooh!!!! I'm having orgasms right now! I prefer this approach. She should have done a proper recording of this arrangement and released it as a single with P's version on the B side. Having heard this I have to say as much as I love the official version, they didn't quite get this one down like it should have been. If they'd got it right it could have been one of her very best tracks. They had the potential for something majestic here, but they made the mistake of inviting Prince along. Big mistake. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”
