I didn't watch the whole show, hell, I barely watched any of it. But I did see George Michael. I'm not a big George Michael fan, but from what I saw, the show would have been greatly improved if it was 1 hour and 55 minutes of GM and five minutes of announcing another crappy AI winner.
I still don't see the appeal of this show. Maybe the fact that the creators have convinced millions of people that their votes actually count, there is a certain hilarity in that. Paula's drug abuse is more pathetic than funny and Ryan Seacrest is pure torture.

maybe he had a cold, but...
man he looked like hell. and in the first half of the song, i swore he was drunk. but he did win my over by the end. that song always "gets" me. yeesh. i love it. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HIM IN JULY!!! "Try to remember how you used to feel about me
and think about how you're treating me now. Then try to reconcile them, if you can. But you don't even remember, do you?"

Oh My God, He looks ill!!! I hope he is OK. It was a wonderful performance. So full of passion and emotion. Those words kill me. So sad, but true. I bawl like a baby most times I hear it. Thats my George, can't wait to see him in Aug. If the wind blew all the petals from your precious red rose, would you be afraid of what you'd find inside?...

Odd choice of song for such a fluff, useless show.

Actually, he told Ryan Seacrest after he performed that he had a cold. So yeah, he WAS ill last night. Considering that, he sounded freakin' amazing! I could never sing AT ALL when I had a cold! Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

i was moved by his performance ... i have to say ... it was the highlight by far of the whole show ... altho it was more "watchable" than past years (even todays paper seemed to comment on that ... )
ZZ Top with Cook , Gladys Knight with Robert downey jr .. lol ... but i thought G Michael was the highlight ... funny thing tho ... this mornin alot of people seem to NOT have thought the way i did ... i just heard Howard Stern sayin how he felt terrible bout it .. he fast forwarded it thru G Michael and "nothin worse than a Queen gettin old and losing his looks " .... Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

I have a couple tickets for GM up for sale at Craigslist and not one response for 2 weeks... Then seconds after his performance I have over 40 responses!... George killed it with "Praying For Time" -- it was like a slap in the face to all that American Idol stands for -- which to me, said alot more than Prince's vague idol worship posts when he was on... Anyway, George sounded great and looks just fine for a middle aged man who enjoys the drink and smoke, so lay the fuck off.

It was sad to hear those talentless fuckholes slaughter his songs. Every group number on that show is like a Jr. High show choir, only worse. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

I WANNA C him so bad!!! I liked his acoustic version of Praying FOr Time..but he was trying a little hard on the end. I liked how the "sun went doown on him" in the background. That was moving. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I was thinking Vegas-era Elvis His voice still sounds good, but he got so concerned with being taken seriously that he's determined to be boring, no matter what! [Edited 5/22/08 12:36pm] My Legacy

I was referring less specifically to that song, which is pretty decent, and more to his general over-seriousness. His older music was kind of fluffy, but really good. I think he's kind of ignored his gift for hooks in favor of trying to move people or be taken as a serious artist. Maybe it's not as self conscious as it seems, though. He has been through some trials, maybe it's true reflection of his feelings, I don't know. But he's a perfect choice for that show, because he's a great singer. More of a pure singer than Prince, to be sure. My Legacy

Beautiful. You won´t find nowadays such a powerful song. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

Yeah, but I think he still brings the "hooks and fluff" (Flawless, An Easier Affair) and humor (Shoot The Dog)... just not to the number 1 spot anymore.
