Slow Jam of the Day: "Woman to Woman" by Shirley Brown

Hello, may I speak to Barbara
Barbara, this is Shirley
You might not know who I am
But the reason I am calling you is because
I was going through my
Old man`s pockets this morning
And I just happened to find your name and number

So woman to woman
I don`t think it`s being anymore than fair
To call you and let you know
Where I`m coming from

Now Barbara
I don`t know how you`re gonna take this
But whether you be cool
Or come out of a bag on me
You see it doesn`t really make any difference

But it`s only fair that I let you know that
The man you`re in love with
He's mine

From the top of his head
To the bottom of his feet
The bed he sleeps in
And every piece of food he eats

You see, I make it possible
The clothes on his back
Ha ha, I buy them
The car he drives
I pay the note every month

So I`m telling you these things
To let you know how much I love that man
And woman to woman
I think you`ll understand
How much I`ll do to keep him

Give it up for Shirley Brown.
Andy is a four letter word.

I love this song. I used to listen to it occasionally until my local old school station started playing it daily at 9am.

I love this. But isn't it very similar to "She's got Papers'?

"I Pay the note each month!"

And what is with Barbara Mason doing asnwer songs to both of these??

Did Shirley Brown mean to direct this song to Barbara?

Barbara Mason lives for songs like these lol I'm not surprised that she felt the need to "answer" this song (and other songs that cover the same topic). One of her finest albums is titled 'I Am Your Woman,She Is Your Wife'.

But was Shirley asking for it by calling the woman "Barbara" whens he find the note?

Yeah, the intro is my fave part of the song. I always thought she sounded a lot like Aretha. This cut sounds exactly like somthing Aretha would have done. Wasn't there an answer song to this? I seem to remember that there was but I can't remember who did it. All these cats on here, Soul, pali, Vain, Rip, they'll know.

Yes. Read up to the 2nd post or so...Barbara Mason did an answer to this song with "From His Woman To You", it's embeeded up there.

She also did an answer to "She's Got Papers", called "She got Papers, I got the man"
