AL GREEN-LAY IT DOWN-LP of the YEAR No one is touching this.

The new AL green LP is a accomplishment and a feat of supernatural abilities. Questlove & Poyser have made their calling card for every Legacy artist on the planet, in the same way that Rubin gave Johnny Cash his epic stripped down sound for the late 20th century.

Al Green has proved you can make magic still in the studio if you channel your soul correctly and effectively. The vocals are recorded amazingly. The engineering of this record is sonically natural as anything you could ever hope for.

The sequence of tracks flows effortlessly. The musicianship is loose and organic. Even the collaborative duets with Bailey Rae,Anthony Hamilton,John Legend are fantastic. This record takes you to "Church". This one picks up where "Belle" left off and rightfully so these guys have created a classic for our time. Not only that but succeeding with duets and all *NEW* material.

The Dap Kings deserve praise for their horn arrangements and contribution they have on this record. James Poyser has smacked every single naysayer in this building of what he is capable of doing. You can't "F" with him. Larry Gold has given you String orchestrations that every Al Fan or Purist or Elitist is going to have to say "COT DAMN" to. Spanky's guitars hold place the rhythm section with these bright chords to accompany the great Reverend.

The guitars, organ, piano, drums, horns, strings, bass You can't f with any of that. And as for Ahmir Thompson? His place is now on a level that no one can take from him. If you denied him The Roots,Badu,Bilal,Jill Scott, D'angelo, then you can't deny him this. This is a moment of achievement that can't be taken lightly.

This is a a lp that should get every award and praise under the sun. God himself should speak and say "Holy shit you guys are amazing" The 2 n half years of work have paid off. To the ?Love/Poyser haters? They just dropkicked you with this one, son. You got the cornbread stuffed in your piehole and you are going to eat it. NO one on here can deny this masterpiece. Unless you are tonedeaf, period. It's really that simple. Quest/Ahmir/James Poyser and everyone on this record did their homework. Now you have to grade it. 11 tracks of magic for everyone in the universe to enjoy. This is a universal lp and Blue Note is probably going to break records with this one.

what's amazing is everyone thought Willie Mitchell would bring Al this blinding jewel of light, but it was the Soulquarians who did it. Near the end of May everyone else will know the magnitude of this lp. There is a reason why their phone is ringing off the hook everyday. These guys have brought Al Green back in full force running on all cylinders. Preorder this lp now

***** (5 Stars but you should know that by now)

I will say this anyone who doubted these cats from Philly are going to have a alot of crow to eat. These cats deserve grammy's as soon as they hit the red carpet. Grammy's should rain down on them.

And no there isn't a Jay Dilla inspired track on the whole disc. Take that!

Calling George Benson..you are next on deck you can atone for your previous transgressions on GRP. lol

These guys have just elevated themselves to"Rick Rubin" "T BONE BURNETT" "DON WAS" status. If I see anyone diss this record, you should be taken to the woodshed and beaten severely with a sock full of .....

The most astounding thing is adding other vocalists did not taint the magic. Al makes it look like these three were destined to sing with him. (Honestly) And it doesn't seem like a StarBucks Sly Stone and Friends moment.

But everyone on this lp deserves every industry award you can think of. Much respect to the people who made this happen.

Love and happiness...
something that can make you do wrong, make you do right...
Love...

Love and happiness
Wait a minute...
something's going wrong
someone's on the phone
three o'clock in the morning
talkin' about how she can make it right
well,
happiness is when you really feel good with somebody
nothing wrong with being in one with someone
oh, baby, love and happiness
love and happiness...
love and happiness...

Love and happiness
You be good to me
I'll be good to you
we'll be together
we'll see each other

No worries here. The day it's released (5/25) i'll be buying multiple copies.

I had also planned on doing a post on his Tonight Show appearance (5/21) that will include a request that all of us that have "advanced copies" go out and purchase the disc for a number of reasons i'll outline at that time.

From what I heard thusfar from the grapevine, the duet with Anthony Hamilton is powerful. I looking forward to hearing the cuts: Lay It Down & You Got The Love I Need.

This album is damn good, at times sounding like it could have been recorded 30 years ago just because of the instrumentation on it.

Who knew he still sang so beautifully?
