She was actually working with Neil Bogart's son... in case some of you who don't know who Neil was.. He was the Owner of Casablanca Records.

Who? That muscley British accented bitch with no voice! Please! (You know what inspired that line, right?)

I'm very geeked about this album. I have only heard the samples and the first two singles, both which I love. It promises to be real good and diverse. She made a wise choice (well, choices) with making an album of different "colors" rather than doinng a bad disco album that diminishes her past or a safe covers album that sells but is not a real statement of any kind as an artist. I've been on a Donna message board most of this weekend talking about (and they are REAL excited there). If you have a Circuit City near you, get it from there since there will include a bonus "I'm A Fire" remix and a song intended as an international only bonus (since they have to wait about a month) called "It's Only Love". Haven't heard a bit of that one yet, so I have something to wait for!

The last thing I'll say about her is that if Madonna really wanted to do a hard hip-hop album, she should have done a "Bob George" type track. That song kills me! There should be essays on it (there probably are already).

It's by far the most iconic prince tune.

It's almost just quotes. Every word is...wow! Easily in my top five.
"Well, Why can't we just dance? Why can't we just dance?"
To get back on topic...why doesn't Donna do a "Bob George" type track?

I'm underwhelmed.

More late, maybe. If I can muster the interest in saying any more about it.

Fans are raving and I think if they didn't like it they would voice their disappointment. Judging by the two singles and the samples, sounds really good.

from allmusic.com:

2.5 stars

Donna Summer sounds younger here than on her previous studio album, 1991's Mistaken Identity, or just about any of the isolated tracks that surfaced throughout the previous 17 years, which is a good thing as frequently as it is a bad thing. Crayons benefits from Summer's effortless energy; she was clearly into making this album, and her voice is as able and flexible as ever. However, almost all of the material with which she has to work — several stylistic angles are taken with the likes of Danielle Brisebois (Natasha Bedingfield, Kelly Clarkson) Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen, Nelly Furtado), J.R. Rotem (Leona Lewis, Trey Songz), and several others — would make more sense on an album by a female teen-pop group from the U.K. or, in some cases, a young adult catering to the coffee house market. One exception, if only from a lyrical standpoint, is "The Queen Is Back," where Summer refers to herself in the third person, as well as her past: "So many years ago on the radio/She crept into your soul and learned to love you." But it's really the type of move you'd expect from an aspiring diva on her second or third album. In-fashion vocal effects, which Summer certainly does not need, detract from a handful of these tracks, but as a whole, the album won't have trouble pleasing fans who just want to hear their queen have a blast and tear it up.

I agree with the star rating, but I think they're a little too generous in their remarks.

It's a very disappointing album to me. With all the things that are going on in dance, soul, etc., this is about as bland as it could be. confused Oh well. Maybe in another 17 years. sad

[/b] it is a pop-album, nothing more or less. and i've read somewhere that summer was never totally accepted by the black community cause her songs were not black enough or too gay...
well you can never please everybody, for me this album is just brilliant

Allmusic gave a 4.5 star rating to Paris Hilton's CD...talk about an awful bland pop album.

I downloaded the album (legally, off Amazon) and I still haven't heard a few of the tracks but what I have heard I really liked what I heard. It's not among her best but more interesting than most of her eighties efforts. The vocals don't lie but the writing and music could be stronger. I think she obviously went a different route after making extremely strong pop ballads and club tracks and wanted to show a bunch of styles. So far, from what I heard, these style changes aren't bad. If anything, when she goes dance pop ("Mr. Music", "The Queen is Back") it sounds the most bland. I still got to give the entire album a listen.

I like the album, for the most part. For me,the highlights are...

"Stamp Your Feet" (extremely catchy and fun)
"Mr.Music" (despite the uninspired "I love music" hook)
"The Queen Is Back"
"Drivin Down Brazil"---love this one!
"I'm A Fire"---this album version is so much better than the tedious remix versions.
"Bring Down The Reign"

I don't really care for "Sand On My Feet" (a snoozefest of a ballad) and let's face it,"Slide Over Backwards" is terrible lol I'll definitely be skipping over that one, lol. But there's enough good tracks here to make this CD a winner. It'll make up part of my summer 2008 soundtrack.

I picked up my copy from Circuit City and I recommend that you guys do the same.It includes two bonus tracks, the excellent "It's Only Love",a pulsing, sultry dance track...and a less-than-thrilling remix of "I'm A Fire".

confuse "all the things going on in dance,soul"....like what? lol For the most part, today's music is predictable and uninspired.I think it's impossible to make a mindblowing, groundbreaking album in 2008.With that in mind,I think Donna made the best album she could possibly make (I feel the same way about Madonna's latest).

sure, modern soul and dance music are pretty dull. BUT. they're a lot more interesting than most of this. it all sounds so dated. and not in a retro way. more like recorded one song every year for the last 12 years and put them all on, as-is, without updating them. lol

there are a few tracks that sound great. and there are a few tracks that don't have stupid/annoying lyrics. and some each are the SAME tracks, but overall this album is a huge let-down for me.

just my opinion, of course. she probably would have been better off just making a straight-up dance album instead of making a (dance-)pop album. shrug
